CHAPTER ELEVEN JOURNAL ENTRY 31 October 1720 Mary and I chanced a brief sojourn ashore to Jamaica for some provisions. We heard rumors that Captain Barnet has been dispatched by the Governor to capture Jack and his crew. Anne and I have decided to hide a portion of the treasure in case our ship is taken. We found the perfect hiding place. Should Barnet take our ship, we can tell him that we were taken against our will, and he will likely believe us and set us free. The best outcome of course would be to elude Barnet. If we succeed in that then the small chest of jewels will provide stability later and allow us to disappear and live the rest of our lives free of need and hunger.
