17 NOVEMBER 1720 17 NOVEMBER 1720 Dear Father, Dear Father, Sadly, this might be my last correspondence. Captain Barnet ambushed us, and captured our vessel without even raising his sword. Although we outnumbered them, the worthless dogs that were our crew cowered in the belly of the boat. Mary and I fought as best we could, but we were two against too many. We have been taken to stand trial in front of His Majesty’s chief magistrate. Since we were seen fighting Barnet’s men, our story that we were taken against our will is no longer believable.
