Chapter 2
I saw my mother's body hit the floor. Her lifeless eyes stared into a distance. Stunned, I looked up at my father.
My father stumbled backwards as one of the Council members grabbed him by the shoulders. In horror my father looked at his hands not believing what he had just done. “She killed my first wife.” he cried. “She killed my mate! My sweet, sweet Rachel!” Many of the on lookers gasped. I knelt down beside my mother. I checked for her pulse knowing it wouldn't be there. “She's gone.” I looked up at my father then I turned in looked at Laney. Her mate Joey had her pulled to his chest, cradling her head against him.
My Mother, the Luna was on trial for kidnapping Laney. My father had attacked her during the sentencing. We all were I shock.
“Oh my god! She’s dead. Did I just do that? I didn’t mean to.” My but his head in his hands. His body began to tremble. I stood and took his father’s arm. Leney’s dad, Alpha Prichard, jumped up, taking Jacob’s other arm. We moved Jacob away from my mother’s body. “Shhh. Don’t say anything else.” Alpha Prichard nodded towards the Council.
Father slumped into a chair. He began weeping. I wasn’t sure if it was from the shock of hearing my mother had killed his first wife, or if it was because he’d strangled the life out of his wife. Maybe it was all of it.
I stood there in the middle of all the chaos…just looking into those lifeless eyes.
Blue. So blue and soft when they once had looked at me. Then they became cloudy.

We sat in the Pack office. Three of the council members set opposite my father and me. My father suddenly looked so small sitting behind the large desk. The events of the last two weeks had taken their toll on my father. Maybe it was that I had grown stronger? Becoming a pack leader was a huge task but I was up to the challenge. I placed my large hands on my father's frail shoulders, and we waited to hear what the council had to say.
”Alpha Alexander Williams, former Alpha Jacob Williams. This council has decided given the facts, we will not be charging you with the murder of Luna Williams. Because it has come to our attention that the Luna had murdered your mate, we find that you were justified in taking her life in accordance with pack tribunals.”
Both my father and I sighed in relief. Just like that, the tension that had been holding us both together left our bodies. My father slumped forward placing his head in his hands. I too ran my hands down my face then looked up at the council members. “Thank you for your understanding. My pack my family has been through a lot these last few weeks. We have suffered greatly, and we thank you for your understanding.”
The council members all nodded. “Alpha Alexander Williams we trust that you will do the right thing. We have great faith in you as a leader do not let us down.” The three council members rose. They all bowed then left the room.
My father grabbed my arm. He looked up at me with sad eyes. “Zander, I'm so sorry for everything that's happened. If I would have known what a terrible woman she was, I wouldn’t have married her. But then, my boy, I would have never had you and I can never regret that.”
I patted my father on the shoulder “Thank you Sir.” We had never been a family big on showing emotion. I didn’t know how to take this conversation. I left him where he was and walked out into the hallway.
I braced myself against the wall. My father may have been thankful that my mother had given birth to me, but I couldn't be the same. How could I have come from such an evil woman? Did her evilness reside in me? I’d like to think I was a better person, but given my actions in the last months was I any better than her? I had made Joey and Laney’s life living hell. I had let anger get the best of me. I was cruel because I didn't get my way. Was I much different than my mother? She would stop at nothing to get what she wanted. And I had tried to do the same. Was there evil inside me too?
