I managed to hold it together until I got inside my own flat, which I considered, under the circumstances, a small personal victory. Then I sat down on my bathroom floor with my back against the tub and let it happen … not a dramatic cry, not a loud one, just the quiet, steady kind that isn't really about sadness so much as it's about the distance between what you actually want and what you've decided you're allowed to have. I sat there with my knees pulled up to my chest and let it run its course, not fighting it, not trying to hurry it along either. I stayed on that bathroom floor until it passed on its own, however long that took .. I genuinely lost track of the minutes, sitting there in the cool tile quiet with my back against the tub, my makeup surely a disaster by the end of it,
