Margaret stepped out of her car with her eyes resting on her porch.
Straining her primal sense of hearing a little, she could make out the voices of her in-laws arguing in the sitting room. Sighing heavily she walked up to her door with a servant opening the door for her.
“Let's get this over with.” She said as she walked in.
“Why don't you read it to us?” Mrs Williams asked the lawyer in exasperation.
“I really can't, ma'am,” Mr Bright, the lawyer, replied with a forced smile. “For me to say what's on the will, every person mentioned in the will has to be present and this includes the widowed wife.”
“But can't you tell us a little of what is written in the will”? Mr Williams asked with a toothy grin.
Hearing that, Mr Bright shook his head in response, “I am sorry, sir, but I can't do that,” he replied. “I could lose my license for that.”
“Tsk.” Mrs Williams replied in irritation. “You lawyers and your stupid rules,” she said as she turned her gaze away only to see Margaret walk into the sitting room. Seeing her, every trace of displeasure vanished from her features.
“It is so wonderful to see you!” She exclaimed with a fawning smile on her face as she ran to hold her gently by her hand. “Why don't you sit down beside me?” She asked.
Margaret stared at her with a mixture of surprise and confusion on her face before sitting down beside her.
“Now what does the will say?” Mrs Williams asked in anticipation.
Mr Bright shook his head before opening a file and bringing out a sheet of paper. “Well,” he began. “According to what is written here, he said Mr and Mrs Williams get to keep the house they currently live in.”
“That is great!” Mrs Williams exclaimed in glee. “What about his other properties?” She asked.
“As for the other properties,” Mr Bright continued. “He has given them all to his wife, Miss Margaret.
Hearing that, everywhere became silent immediately with Mrs Williams staring at Me Bright in shock.
“What about his company?” Mr Williams asked while trying to mask his feeling of displeasure.
“He gave you both a 2 percent share out of his fifty five percent.” Mr Bright replied with a smile.
“What about the other fifty-three?” Mr Williams asked with a frown.
“He has given them to his wife.” Mr Bright replied.
“This is not possible!” Mrs Williams exclaimed before jumping to her feet. “How can my son give almost everything he owns to this woman he barely married for a year.” She asked.
Mr Bright revealed a helpless smile on his face before reaching out with his right hand which held the will. “Don't take my word for it,” he said. “You can read it yourself if you do not believe me.”
Snatching the will from Mr Bright's hand, Mrs Williams glanced through it before tossing it to the ground in anger. “This can't be happening!” She screamed. “Margaret, you can't be planning to not give us part of the properties, are you?” She asked her.
“Well,” Margaret said shuffling her feet.
“Actually,” Mr Bright interrupted. “at the end of the will, he wrote that his wife was not allowed to give any of the properties he gave her to you both and if she does, he gave me the right to take those properties away and do whatever I want with them.”
“How dare that boy?!” Mrs Williams shouted with a clenched fist. “How can he leave us like this and without anything?”
“He did give you guys shares though.” Margaret chimed in.
“Shut up you w***e!” Mrs Williams spat as she whirled around to glare at her.
Margaret looked taken aback as she wanted backwards a little while staring at her in surprise. “I beg your pardon?” She asked.
“You can take that pardon and shove it up your ass!” Mrs Williams shouted as she advanced towards her.
“Hey baby," Mr Williams called as he held his wife back. “Nothing positive will come out of what you are about to do so I suggest you do not do it.”
“Why not?” Mrs Williams asked in anger. “I could kill her and toss her body somewhere no one will ever find it.” She replied.
“Uurrm, excuse me, I am right here.” Mr Bright said, waving his hand above his head. “And you really shouldn't be saying stuff like that around a lawyer; I could use words like yours in a lot of ways in court, you know.” He added.
“What do you mean in court?” Mrs Williams asked in bewilderment. “You are not a defense attorney and what kind of court will want to meddle in the affairs of werewolves anyway?” She asked.
“That is correct,” Mr Bright replied. “But I could be one if I wanted to and I'm pretty sure you would not want to answer to the members of his pack who are all of the opinion that their Alpha was killed.”
“What do my actions have to do with them?” Mrs Williams said angrily.
“Do you think the members of the Tenebrae Albae pack will take the news of you killing their Luna lying down?” He asked with a raised eyebrow. “They'll probably hunt you down just for that and won't stop until you both are dead.”
Mrs Williams shuddered in response. “That won't… happen.” She replied.
“You think?” He scoffed in response. “Then do what you have in mind will happen?” He asked
Mrs Williams couldn't bring herself to talk so she sat down uncomfortably.
“That's what I thought.” Mr Bright said with a satisfied smile. “But on that note, I'll be taking my leave.” He said as he stood up with his briefcase.
“Won't you stay for dinner?” Margaret asked as she stood up with him.
“No, ma'am,” Mr Bright replied with a shake of his head, but if you want my advice, I think you should take some guards from the thousands of werewolves in your pack.”
He said. “You're a young heiress now, and lots of people might think you are easy prey.” He added while gesturing with his eyes at Mr and Mrs Williams.
Mrs Margaret nodded in understanding before replying, “I'll do just that Mr Bright.” She said with a smile. “Thank you.”
“No problem.” Mr Bright replied with a smile as he walked out.
“What did you give to my son that made him forget us?” Mrs Williams snapped at Margaret with Mr Williams scowling behind her while glaring at Margaret.
“What do you mean by that?” Margaret asked with rage colouring her features.
“You must have given him some black voodoo magic from Nigeria where you're from.” Mrs Williams replied with her husband nodding in support.
Margaret looked taken aback hearing that, “I'm not even from Nigeria so how on earth could I possibly do that?” She asked with a bewildered expression.
“I don't know!” Mrs Williams exclaimed, “But I'm sure you did that.”
Margaret shook her head in response. “You both need to leave my house now or I'm calling the beta to kick you out.” She said. “Full disclosure, he'll be really happy to kick your asses.” She added with a smile.
“You wouldn't dare!” Mr Williams bellowed with his face turning red in rage.
“I dare,” Margaret replied with a smile as she picked up her phone.
Mr and Mrs Williams glanced at each other with uncertainty on their faces. “This isn't over!” Mrs Williams shouted as she and her husband walked towards the door.
“We will be coming back for what belongs to us.”
“Yeah, right, whatever,” Margaret replied, waving her hand.
“WHAM!” they slammed the door as they left.
A couple of seconds later, her maid Grace walked into the sitting room and sat down beside Margaret who had her head in her arms. “I think we need a guard for you.” She said.
With a sigh, Margaret replied. “I agree, contact the person we agreed on. I'll be in my room, and I do not want to be disturbed.” She added as she stood up and walked out.
