THE QUIT NOTICE

Kiara's Pov

Knock,knock,knock!.

A loud sound came from the door.

"Oh my God! Who is that at this early hour of the morning?"COMING"

I screamed out in frustration as I sprung up on my feet from my bed to check who was actually at the door and to my surprise it was my homeowner's lawyer.

"Good morning sir," I greeted him.

"Good morning Kiara," he replied with a mean face that isn't good to be looked at when waking up in the morning.

"You can come in sir," he interrupted my offer with a slightly harsh tone.

No,no,no,no. There's absolutely no need for that, I am only here to pass on a message from my client, your homeowner to you. I was asked to hand this over to you," he said with his hands stretched out with an envelope in it to me.

"Thank you sir" I replied as I collected it from him.

"Do have a nice day. Hope to meet you some other time Kiara". He left..

I shut the door behind me, only to see Ella, my younger sister, standing there the whole time.

"Good morning, big sis"

"Good morning, sissy", How was your night? Sisturrr? ,I replied

"It was fine," she said.

"Who was that at the door just now? "She asked in an inquisitive tone.

"Oh, it was our homeowner's lawyer. He came to convey a message to me from our homeowner through this envelope. I am yet to open it, I hope it's just not what I am thinking", I sighed.

Opened and the heading of the letter that stated" A NOTICE TO QUIT THE APARTMENT" written in bold letters changed my mood, this definitely has to be a spoiled day for me.

"Oh my God! What am I going to do at this point?" I fell to my feet.

"Big sis what's wrong, what's the matter," Ella asked.

"I am finished. I haven't even saved a quarter of the rent. Yes, I owe him for last year, but I pleaded with him. I promised to pay up before the end of this year. I need money for your new clinical treatment as well. I cried out in frustration.

"I am sorry, big sis, I wish I could help you. I really feel bad whenever I see you running around just to take care of all the bills singlehandedly", She concluded with tears which melted my heart instantly.

"Don't think that way, Ella. I am here for you always. I work hard for your bills and would definitely see that we don't get thrown out and trust me, it's my responsibility. You shouldn't feel guilty about it.

I know you care about me, but don't forget your sister always finds a way somehow". I said, trying to be confident and encouraging her.

"Alright, Big sis", I love you", she smiled.

"I love you too, sister, I said, leaving a peck on her forehead.

Now that's my Ella.

Yeah .. You know nothing about me, right?

I'll introduce myself

I'm Kiara Adams, the first child and daughter of two parents. I am 20 years of age. I have an only sibling/sister, Ella, whom I am 5 years older than.

Sadly, my parents passed away when I was still really young, leaving me with the responsibility of taking care of my only sister.

I had to do different jobs timely just to make ends meet and also pay for Ella's hospital bills right after she fell sick and was diagnosed with a brain tumor in its first stage, a year ago.

It was the worst news I had heard in a long while after my parents passed.I was gripped with so much fear that I wasn't ready to lose another.

Right now, I am thinking about my life and what to do because I have to pay rent and my sister's chemo bills.

Holding the letter in my hands and reading to see the exact date he gave us to pay up fully, which is in three months' time, or we will be thrown out.

I grabbed my phone and dialed my best friend May's number... she's been more like a sister to me, always coming along and cheering me up at my lowest... Right now she's the only one I can think of to ranting to.

Phone rings........

"Hello bestie, How are you doing today? This one you are calling this early... Hmmm

"Hello Maya," I replied in a low and weak tone.

"Your voice says otherwise Kiara, what's wrong?", she says as she notices

" I am not fine", I burst into tears.

"What's going on?, what's... what's the matter babes, I hope sweeties(Ella) is fine at the moment. Talk to me please"...she replied, panicking.

"No, nothing's wrong with her. She's fine, I am just frustrated, I don't know what to do or how to get the money."

What money? She interrupted." Stop crying Kiara. OK, you know what I'll be at your place at 5pm this evening Alright?..I am currently about to be late for work.

"Alright". I replied, sobbing.

When's your shift for your job today? She asked.

"Bar at 2pm, housekeeping by 4pm, Ella and I will be going to the hospital this morning as well. She has an appointment with the doctor today... I replied.

Alright Babes, I'll see you in the evening. Stop crying. Extend my greetings to sweeties. Love ya"

"Alright thank you, love ya"

She hangs up the phone.

I wiped my tears as soon as I heard Ella's footstep approaching, trying to maintain composure.

"Are you crying?she asked with a concerned look.

"Hell No! Seems like you've forgotten big girls like I am. Don't cry, Huh?" I said, faking a smile on my face.

"Your eye looks teary"she says with a puppy look.

"No sissy, it's teary because I am staring at how beautiful you look, my love." I said in a convincing tone.

"By the way, your Aunt Maya says she will be visiting this evening. She extends her greetings."

"Really? Yay, Thank God" ...she screams while running round with so much happiness.

I laughed, "come here, we will be late for your school. I have to be at work as well today, okay."

"Okay"

She says as she runs towards me...

Had two shifts today,

Just returning from the last one, I really needed a rest, but unfortunately, I guess that will be later, because my best friend is at my house already. Totally forgot we were meeting this evening.

"Welcome Big sis". Ella greeted me as she ran towards me to take my bags

"How are you and school today? I questioned her

"Fine sis".

"Maya" I called out

"Kiara" she replied, walking towards me with opened arms that were screaming tight warm hugs

"Hmmmmmm" she muttered as she squeezed me." I missed you girllll! Been a while". She exclaimed.

"I missed you so much bestie, can you leave me now I'll get choked". I said while laughing.

"Oops". She laughed as she freed me.

"Girl! You are glowing, it seems you are hiding something from me". I said while giving her a side eye look

"Glowing?" She asked surprisingly

"Yasss girl, you're glowing. Who is that lucky man?". I teased her, knowing fully well she was single in a stupor like me.

"You must be joking". She said, leaving me standing as she went to take a seat on the couch in the sitting room.

"Well, that's not the reason I am here. You called crying in the morning, remember?".

" Babes, a lot is happening at this point. I am not going to lie, but before we dive right into discussions about me, what can I offer you?". I questioned moving to the kitchen.

She ran towards me, dragging me to sit down with her. "No, no, I need nothing right now, all I am concerned about is what's going on with you at the moment".

I sighed." Alright if you say so, well I need your help" I said, while playing with the tips of my fingers

"Is everything okay with your sister?"she asked.

"Yeah, she's fine, as you can see. I replied" she actually got accepted to the new clinical trial".

"It's great, right?". She asked while hugging me. "I mean isn't that what you were praying for?" She asked in a worried tone.

"Yes it is. It's just, um.... I paused, placing my palm on my head with a sad look. " It's 50k dollars out of pocket," I continued, as I looked sober.

"Oh my God". May exclaimed.

"I really need money and am out of options". Giving her a puppy eye look.

There was an amount of silence in the room for a moment as "May" bit her fingers in thoughts.

"You can just introduce me to the woman you introduced your colleague to ". I pinched my lips as I broke the silence between us in the room.

May looked at me furiously like she could have handed me a slap. "Nah, don't tell me you want to talk about Madam G right now". She raised her voice angrily.

"I mean you could introduce me". I grabbed her hands in desperation.

"Yes. But Kiara, are you sure? She asked in a worried tone. "Once you go on that route, there's no going back". She continued

"Maybe we can start another Go fund like we did the last time". She picks up her phone, typing "or I have a lot of money saved up. I can just"

I interrupted her by squeezing her hands. "May, it's 50k dollars out of pocket and, besides, I was served a notice to pay up or quit the apartment initially when I called you this morning". I said while grabbing my handbag to bring out the letter to show her. "Madam G is my only option now". I sobbed.

"Oh my friend, how worried you must have been". May hugged me while I sobbed on her shoulders.

"Am so sorry Kiara". I'll send you her number. You can actually discuss with her to know how she will be off help, Alright?.

Got a notification on my phone, and it's Maya sending me directions to Madam G's location. I hugged her immediately. "Thank you so much May. I love you" I exclaimed.

"I love you too, babes. Just be careful with your decisions". She ad vices

"Alright, now can I offer you something?. I asked while standing up.

"You can now babes am so famished. By the way, where's Ella? We were talking right before you came in", she replied.

"Ella!!!". I screamed.

"Big sis!!", she replied. Could hear footsteps of hers running down the stairs

"Your aunt needs your attention" I replied.
