Chapter 19 – The Talk or Not?
Jessy POV
That b***h! She thinks she can come into my house, my pack, and take my man? The Luna spot is mine! I’ve worked long and hard to become the Luna to the King. If I thought for one second Lucas wouldn’t kill me, I would kill her myself. I need a plan…
I need to see Pierre’s Alpha. He still thinks I’ll mate with him. He’s a nobody, and I will not mate with a nobody. I haven’t rejected him yet… now I know why.
Lara POV
I don’t know how long I’ve been asleep, but it’s dark outside. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Lucas sitting at his desk, working. Should I get up and talk to him?
“Evening, my angel. Feeling better?” Lucas’s eyes are on me. How does he do that?
“Hi,” I murmur like a shy teenager. Why am I acting like this? Urgh.
I must look a mess. No—I am a mess. I can’t even remember the last time I had a proper bath or brushed my teeth.
“Mmm, Lucas.” His gaze doesn’t waver. It feels strange saying his name. No one else calls him that—but to me, it’s only Lucas. Something else would feel wrong.
“Yes,” he replies, still sitting and staring at me.
“I… I really need to take a bath and put on clean clothes.” I notice his eyes roam my body, as if undressing me with them.
I freeze as a knock comes at the door. “Enter,” Lucas says without looking away.
A small, petite girl enters, gorgeous and bright-eyed.
“Move our Luna’s bags to my room and prepare a bath for her,” he commands.
“Really? You don’t have to do that. I can manage myself.” I don’t mind my things being moved—I want to see his room. But his gaze… he needs to stop, or I won’t be accountable for my actions.
“Oh no, Miss. It’s my honor. Just give me five minutes to get your things upstairs.” She’s genuinely excited.
“I’ll come with you!” I nearly leap off the couch. I can’t wait, even five minutes feels too long. I feel safer with her guiding me.
Lucas POV
I felt her wake up before she even looked at me. She looked so peaceful on my couch. My work suffers when I try to focus—I keep thinking of her body, of her.
I can’t get up. If I do, I’ll never let her go. She might bolt, and I’m not ready for that.
Then she asks to take a bath, and… well, my imagination goes somewhere it shouldn’t. I picture her naked, my hands on her body, her moaning my name. I force myself to stay put—safest for both of us.
My phone rings, yanking me back to reality.
“What now?” I snap. “Okay, I’ll be there in 20 minutes.”
Jacqui, I mind-link. She knows I’m frustrated.
‘She’s in your room, having a bath,’ Jacqui tells me.
Great. Now I have to talk to the cops with… blue balls.
Lara POV
“Hi Lara, it’s Jacqui. Can I come in?” she calls as I step out of the bath. Best bath ever! I tried really hard not to imagine Lucas there—but I may have… a little.
“Come in! Just brushing my teeth.”
I quickly brush and wrap myself in a massive towel. “Sorry, forgot my bag. Don’t want anyone walking in while I get dressed.” She knows who that anyone is.
“No worries, Lucas won’t come in. That’s why I’m here,” Jacqui says. I can’t help feeling a pang—he’s not here. But she adds, “He sends his apologies. He had to go to the club—break-in, something serious. He’ll be back soon.”
“Oh no, that’s bad.” My thoughts drift to him, and I scold myself. He has responsibilities. He can’t just wait for me all day. I need to snap back to reality. Tomorrow, we can talk properly.
