Chapter 9

Madilyn's POV

It was starting to get dark. Jayden wasn't here yet. Did she decide not to come?

"She will come. Don't worry, you can trust her."

"Madilyn, there is something you should know..."

*KNOCK* *KNOCK* *KNOCK*

That's her!!!

"She's here!" I squealed as I ran to open the door.

I swung the door open and there she stood. She smelled heavenly, it wasn't a specific scent, but she smelled like walking through the woods with the scent of the ocean off in the distance. I immediately hugged her, it had been so long since I last hugged her.

I pulled her inside and up to my room. I couldn't believe how long it had been since we last talked. I told her everything, well, almost everything. I didn't tell her about the wolf part. I don't think I am allowed to just tell people that.

"So you broke up with him as he was trying to get you to sleep with him?" She said, holding back her laughter.

"Yes, but only because I just realized that he wasn't the one. I know that sounds silly, but I just couldn't do it." I responded, half laughing.

We just talked and talked until Amy called us down for the party.

I know it was strange but I was a little excited. I have never had a party before. I walked down and Amy had finger food all over the kitchen counters, she had balloons that were shaped like a 1 and an 8. She had an actual disco ball with LED lights and Dua Lipa playing in the background. This was the best birthday ever, but Max wasn't there. I thought he had just gone out to get supplies but he was gone for nearly two hours.

Max's POV

"Call me with more updates. If they move further south, call me immediately and I will be there by morning." I said worriedly.

"I know you want to be at the pack house knowing every little thing going on, so do I, but Madilyn needs us."

("If he moves any further south that means war, Kalic, how will she be able to handle everything she is destined to do in the middle of a blood bath?")

"She was chosen for a reason. We have to trust that she is capable of handling these situations."

("I guess your right.")

I know he is right. Kalic is always right. The moon goddess did well pairing us. I hope he can find his mate. I hope I can find my mate.

Madilyn is going to like being a wolf, I can tell. She is already so excited to know the history and get to know her people. She would make a great queen. I am terrified every day that he will find her and kill her. If Damon Stone knows what she is destined to do, then he will kill her. He is slowly taking territory in the East, the South and even neutral states. He plans to be the last Alpha standing. I have to keep my pack and Madilyn safe. But how can I do that? How?

I completely lost track of time, Madi was going to kill me.

Madilyn's POV

Where was Max? This isn't like him. He was supposed to be here an hour ago. I was worried. Jayden had gone to town to get some clothes for her to stay the night. I wanted to talk to him while she was gone and hoped that maybe I could shift before she got back. Where was he?

That's when I heard his car door close. I rushed to the door and opened it as he was approaching the door.

"Where have you been?" I asked him sternly.

"Chill out, I lost track of time." he said defensively.

"We have to hurry up and get this over with. Jayden will be back any minute and she's spending the night. Do you know how difficult it will be trying to explain to my best friend I am a wolf?" I snapped back.

"You can't rush the process. It all depends on the moon and your wolf. It can take hours, minutes, or seconds." Max explained.

"HOURS!" I yelled.

"Does it hurt?" I asked, scared of the answer.

They both just looked at me and I knew the answer. I can't do this. I have zero pain tolerance. This was going to be the worst night of my life.

"It won't be that bad, you just need to focus on me. With every breath you focus on me and what I look like. It will be over before you know it."

("Your not the one whose bones are going to be breaking. You have it easy.")

"I don't have a form yet. Right now I am just a part of you, I have to form bones. It will be painful for both of us."

("At least I will have you with me the whole time.")

I was a little relieved. I know that, no matter what, I will be okay as long as I have Eden.

To make things better, Jayden was back. At that moment, everything was perfect. When Jayden walks through the door her eyes darken and all I hear is

"Mate!"

I turned to see Max, who's eyes had also gone dark and he also said,

"Mate!"
