Chapter 7 I Was Not Eaten?

793 Words
It was very late at night.   As I laid on my soft bed, memories of the cold expressions on the three men's faces kept flooding my mind. Anxiety filled my heart. My instincts were telling me that something bad was about to happen.   But when the hand of the clock hanging on the wall struck twelve, the castle was still quiet. It was as if nothing had happened. Even the sound of the beast earlier could not be heard.   Am I just overthinking back there?   Oh, whatever! It's time to escape!   I didn't dare turn on the lights out of fear that I might alert someone in the castle. I changed into the leotard in the dark, and stuffed my purse and cell phone into a leather pouch along with a dining knife that I stole from the ballroom earlier on.   I crept my way downstairs wearing only socks, with the leather boots held in one hand.   The castle was so quiet that one could hear the fall of a needle. With dim lighting, the interior of the castle was not as elegant and stunning as it was in the day. It felt creepy, as if a ghost would suddenly appear from the dark.    I've always loved horror movies, but when placed in such an environment in real life, I couldn't help but be afraid.   I snuck into one of the empty rooms on the second floor. From the open window, I could see the field of grass below. I swung my legs out of the windows, and climbed out. I clung to the edge of the window, hanging in midair. There was only a two meters gap between my feet and the ground. I let go, and landed on the ground as graceful as a cat.   I was not a spoiled city girl. I grew up in the countryside! Hunting was my favorite activity when I was young. My grandpa, my dad, and even my sister were all good hunters.   The castle might be their territory, but out in the wild, I felt just like home.   I was able to go through the sea of white roses guided by the faint glimmer of moonlight and made my way towards the iron fence surrounding the castle.    The fence did little to impede my escape. But before I could even celebrate my "freedom"...   Boom…   The ground began to shake. Something big was approaching from afar, and at a very high speed.   It was the sound made by a large beast!   And it was fast!   A large animal materialized out from the dark of night before I could react.   What I saw sent fear through my entire being.   It was a wolf as tall as an adult human, and more than two meters long.   As the silver-haired wolf stared at me with its blood-red eyes, I could feel bloodlust emanating from the beast.   Do wolves grow that big? Is this… Some sort of mythical beast?   Large patches of the wolf's fur were dyed red with blood. There were even open wounds on many parts of its body. It looked like it had just been in a fight, which made it even scarier.   I was struck with fear as I stared into its eyes that were like the abyss.   Didn't McKenzie say something about a hunt? Is this what they're hunting? Did they fail? Did the wolf kill them?   Despite my fear, I was able to maintain my composure.   But it did not last long. My body started to tremble, but I did not dare call for help, nor did I attempt to run away. I was afraid that this would speed up my demise.   When facing a beast, one must always keep calm.   My only chance of survival was to drag this encounter on as long as possible until help could arrive.   But I also knew that the chances of me getting rescued were slim.   Damn it! I should've stayed in my room!   It could be a figment of my imagination, but I could see a teasing glint in the wolf's eyes.   Awooooo!   The howl of another wolf rang out in the dark.   My heart sank into despair. There's more of them?   Just then, the injured wolf began to move. It leaped through the air, baring its fangs at me!   I pulled out the tiny dining knife in my pouch, knowing full well that my gesture was futile. That thing was smaller than one of the wolf's fangs.   I didn't even have time to say my words!   I closed my eyes, waiting silently for the Grim Reaper's scythe to claim me.   I could feel the cold sensation of the wolf's fangs against my skin.   Eh? I didn't feel pain!   Is it not gonna eat me?
