Chapter 4 It’s Supposed To Be A Marriage Interview!

957 Words
“Owen, can you tell me what’s going on?”   I placed all my hopes on the only man who appeared to be normal.   “Our family, the Stuart family, is one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Europe. There is a rule in our family, that a suitable female is chosen by our Council of Elders for males within our family that are of age to ensure the strength of our bloodline. You, young miss, had been chosen by the elders. Hundreds of years ago, the right to mate was decided by trial through combat. But due to the high number of deaths and the grudges it planted within the members of our family, the Elders decided to change the rules. The female is to decide who she mates with.” Owen offered his explanation with his alluring voice.   “You’re lying! I don’t believe you!” I sneered at him. Only a child would fall for something like this!   A strange smile appeared on Owen’s face. He pulled out an ancient looking dagger, stood up, and made his way towards me.   “What are you trying to do?” I was alarmed.   His sudden movement caused me to take a few steps backwards. Even when I knew that it was just a show, fear still gripped my heart.   He raised the dagger, and plunged it into the palm of his left hand with a swift movement.   Blood gushed out of his wound and dripped onto the floor.   “Ahhh!” I screamed with terror clear in my voice. I was stunned by all the blood in front of me.   But Owen did not even flinch. The warm smile that remained on his face, however, sent chills down my spine.   Owen pulled the dagger out of his palm as I gaped on with horror. My shock deepened when the wound on his left palm began healing at the rate that the eyes could see. It took slightly more than ten seconds for the wound to fully close. It was as if no damage had been done to his palm at all.   “This is a power possessed only by members of the Stuart family.” said Owen as he licked the blood away from his dagger, the smile still on his face, “Do you believe me now?”   I was stunned into silence. Owen was not a meter away from me. I know very well that it was not some sort of trick.   All of it was real.   I was able to calm my nerves, and began analyzing the events that led up to this point.   The expensive gown, the luxurious car, a freaking castle, and a butler…   Would someone actually try so hard to fool someone a mere extra? It doesn’t make sense! There’s no way people are willing to fund a reality show like this!   Besides… McKenzie, James, and Owen… Even the most handsome looking idol in the entertainment industry could not hold a candle to them.   And some things could not be faked.   Just like the air of grace and elegance given off by their driver and butler, as well as the mannerism of aristocrats displayed by the three young masters.   I had never been the one they wanted in the first place! It was Stella who they were after. It was entirely possible that Stella was good enough to be chosen.   So… Stella was not here for a date! She was here for a marriage interview!   Even she herself might not know the truth!   Wait… Am I just here to give birth to someone’s child for Stella?   That thought immediately sent dread into my heart.   “Uhmm… About that… Do I have the right to refuse?” I asked meekly.   “Of course you do!”   Owen’s gentle smile sent relief washing over me.   “But the secrets of the family are something that must be kept from outsiders. If you refuse, we’ll have to… Dispose of you.”   What?! I bit back the curse that almost left my mouth. I’ve thought wrongly of you, Owen. You are the most abnormal one here!   “Then what do I have to do next?” I let out a long sigh after making peace with the fact that resistance was futile. The only option was for me to accept the reality laid out before me. Staying alive is the most important thing right now.   “You’ll have to stay in the castle with us for seven days and make your choice.”   “And then what?”   “You’ll know when the time comes.” Owen did not offer much clues with his answer, “Of course, if you’re willing to choose me, I wouldn’t mind letting you in on some… Secrets…” he said in a seductive voice.   “Uhmm… Is there something else you want to tell me?”   “I’ll tell you if you pick me.”   “Where’s my room? I’m tired.”   “It’s at the loft. Oh, this one’s for free. The loft is your territory. No one is allowed to enter that place.”   With that, Owen walked up to me. He lowered his head, and his lips came crashing down towards mine.   Our lips met.   His lips were soft and warm.   He was taller than me. And as his near-perfect face hovered inches away from mine, I could feel his breath on my face. Our close proximity sent my heart racing.   “You’ll never be able to escape. Giving birth to my child is your destiny.” he whispered into my ear. His voice was as seductive as the Devil’s.   Panic gripped my heart. I immediately bolted towards the door, and fled the room.
