Chapter 10

1019 Words
Inside the bathroom, Eve is laying in the bathtub, her arms gushing out blood from slits she made. There on the floor is a razor blade, coated in her own blood. Her own red fluids are on the floor near the bathtub, on the edge of the tub and in the water. The water, due to her blood, turned a mahogany color. While waiting for the ambulance to get here, Kai calls Eve’s parents. Mrs. Sanchez was the one who answered the phone; when she heard the news about her daughter, she started to worry and started crying. She didn’t want to believe her own daughter would do something like this. She knew Eve was upset about Lexie’s death, but never did she think Eve would take it this far. It was this moment that Eve saw Lexie. Her eyes started to water at her finally seeing Lexie, the one who she loved dearly and was her best friend. “I missed you, Lexie.'' Eve said, happiness filling her whole being. “I missed her too, Eve.” Lexie says, embracing Eve and kissing her passionately. “It’s not your time yet, Eve. Please take care of Kai as he too has been struggling since I’ve died.” Eve shakes her head frantically, hugging Lexie tighter in hopes that would do anything. “No, I don't want to go. I finally can embrace you again. I can finally hear your voice again and I can finally love you the way I’ve been wanting to.” Lexie just shakes her head and smiles. The tears that've been threatening to spill over finally do. Eve didn’t want this to end. She didn’t want to go back if that meant she wouldn't get to see Lexie again. “I don’t want this to end, Lexie.” Eve says, pain being evident in her voice. “I know, but it isn’t your time yet. We will see each other again and be able to hold each other; but for now, you must go back.” Lexie says as she starts to fade away. “No,” Eve starts to say, in a whisper. “No, please don’t leave me,” she continues, pleading for Lexie to take her with. It was at that moment Eve started to scream ‘no’ over and over again. With anguish and pain, Eve starts to open her eyes, seeing a bright, white light in front of her. Everything around her is white with the smell of heavy chemicals. As Eve had a visit from Lexie, Kai was holding a towel to her cuts. It wasn’t long till paramedics came and took Eve away in their emergency vehicle. It was as if it was all a dream as Eve comes to. Realizing she was alive, she starts to let the tears go down her face. She just wanted to be with Lexie again. Turning her head, it was then she realized Kai fell asleep next to her. He was leaning down with her head on the hospital bed, cheeks stained with tears. It was at this moment she raised her hand which had an IV in it towards his head. Both of her arms are wrapped in gauze with stitches underneath. Eve starts running her fingers through his hair as that wakes him up. “Remember when the three of us were younger?” Eve begins to speak, Kai being silent as he listens. “Lexie is the one who brought us together as friends. It was the beginning of school and Lexie entered the room. I remember, even in middle school, thinking she was beautiful.” Eve softly laughs, but it wasn’t something funny, it was a laugh of remembering. “I remember, you came to me saying you fell for Lexie. I was jealous because I liked her long before you told me; I just didn’t know at the time I liked her. That’s why I thought you two were dating. That you finally told her, after all these years, you liked her. you never got the chance to tell her how you felt.” Kai did remember all of that. He offered Eve a smile that she returns but her smile wasn’t of happiness, neither was Kai’s. The smile they shared was reminiscing. He remembered the first moment Lexie came into their class. She transferred into another class during that time because the teachers didn’t like her. It was in high school when they went to private school. Due to the teachers, Mrs. Collins took Lexie out and put her in private school. Eve, not wanting to be left alone, begged her mom to send her to the same school as Lexie. In the end, Mrs. Sanchez agreed and it was then they became even closer. “All I want for you two,” Kai begins, his voice raspy from crying, “Is for you two to be happy. I knew I didn’t have a chance with her, Eve. Even before she knew it, I knew she liked you.” Eve starts crying, knowing Kai loved her as a friend and it was at that moment she felt it. It was just from his words that gave it away. Sniffling, Eve calms down after a moment. It was then that her parents and a doctor came in. “Oh, my baby!” Mrs. Sanchez exclaims, rushing over to her daughter and hugging her. Kai quickly moved out of the way as Mrs. Sanchez rushed over. “I already told your parents, Evelyn,” the doctor starts to say as Mrs. Sanchez backs up a little from her daughter. Sadness was obvious in her eyes but she tried to mask it. “Due to your attempt, we want to keep you here for observation. It’s only for a couple weeks to make sure you don’t need to be watched over constantly.” Silence ensues in the room. It was a silent agreement from Eve. Due to her age, her parents made the decisions for her. The doctor wasn’t asking her to stay, he was telling her.
