During her funeral service, Eve is wearing a long sleeved dress with lace as sleeves which covers her scars on her wrist. Eve doesn’t like using a razor on herself but as soon as she did so the first time, the day after Lexie died, she couldn’t help herself. The razor gave her relief from the pain of her friends passing as she focused on the pain to her wrists instead.
She used to be a bright ray of sunshine at school, everyone loved her. Now, Eve’s a dark, gloomy day. Everyone knows why; Lexie’s death spread throughout the school ever since it was announced on social media.
The other thing Lexie noticed was she doesn’t talk to Kai anymore. Kai has been reaching out to Eve, trying to help and be there for her. They are friends after all, but Eve ignored all of his texts, calls and even house visits. To Eve, Lexie was the main reason she lived, she didn’t know it at that time but now she knows. Without Lexie, Eve had nothing to do in life.
Kai was coping in his own way. Alcohol went missing far more often from his parents' cabinets but they haven’t said anything. That was his own way of coping, why would they try to stop him? The funeral has to be the first time since the accident he was seen sober. For several weeks, he was seen drunk or at least intoxicated. His job at the mall put him on leave until he put himself together again.
One day while at work, Kai just broke down crying while taking care of a customer. The customer was visibly confused and concerned but left with their paid items. That was the day his manager told him to take a leave until he can get himself together again.
Lexie started to walk towards her own grave after standing by the tree facing her grave as everyone started to leave. She just stares at her tombstone, reading it over and over again. Alexandria Collins. Date of birth; february 24th, 2009. Died on May 16th, 2025. She still couldn’t get over that she died just because a deer wanted to go onto the highway.
After a few minutes, everything has left; everyone but Eve. Eve starts to speak, hoping Lexie would hear it. She knows talking to a tombstone is making her look stupid but she has a lot on her mind and wants her best friend, the one who she fell in love with, to hear everything.
“Lexie, if by any chance you’re here, i have to confess something,” Eve starts to say, tears streaming down her face that she didn’t know she had left. “Remember when you confessed to me? That was our first argument and it ended up like this. I’m sorry this happened to you because of me. Everyone keeps telling me this isn’t my fault but I know it is. If I didn’t ask you about my suspicions, we wouldn’t have fought. You were just planning my party, weren’t you?” Eve sniffles, wiping her nose with an overly used tissue. “Lexie, I wish I could have told you this while you were still alive. I love you too. I loved you for a while now but I didn't want to ruin what we had. I hope we can meet again, real soon.”
Lexie begins to cry, not knowing she could do such a thing while dead. She tries to hug Eve, something she so badly wants to do right now but her arms just go right through her. Eve gets a shiver down her spine as Lexie tries to hug her. After Eve calms down enough, she starts to walk away from Lexie’s grave; all the while Lexie is following Eve out of the graveyard.
As Eve is walking to her parents car, she bumps into Kai. They exchange a silent stare, not saying anything as there’s nothing to be said between the two of them. Kai notices just how broken and empty Eve is. He feels pity for her. She’s taken her death so hard and she can’t even function correctly anymore. The two girls were each other's world and it just now shows.
It’s been almost a month since Lexie’s death, making it June. Eve became even more recluse than she has been. Kai decided to text Eve, getting worried since she’s been avoiding him. At this point, Kai has calmed down on the drinking, he’s not drunk all the time. The pain has gotten less and more bearable so alcohol isn’t needed as much. Kai started to work again, everyone is still careful around him, not wanting him to relapse and miss work.
Eve noticed the text from Kai but didn’t respond. Currently, she’s at the hotel where all this sadness of hers started, requesting for the same hotel room that they had a month ago. Luckily enough, the room was empty as she got the keys for the room. With a bag full of alcohol that she stole from her own fathers liquor cabinet, she heads to the room, wanting to forget what happened.
In the room, Eve started to drink the stolen alcohol; sitting in the corner by the bed, hidden from the front door. During this whole time, she’s had her phone turned off. She didn’t want to be stopped, she needed this time alone. Everyone in her life has been worried about her, their worry has started to annoy her though.
Thinking she didn’t have any more tears to shed, she started to sob uncontrollably. This is what she wanted to do. Be alone, a bottle in one hand and tears streaming down her face. Due to Eve’s behavior, she’s been under very close watch and started to feel claustrophobic. She couldn’t deal with it anymore.
A knock on the door can be heard, but she ignores it. She doesn’t want to deal with anyone right now. Taking another swig of the alcohol, she heard Kai talking. He was the last person she wanted to see right now. He knows her pain and that isn’t what she wanted to hear. Eve wanted someone who wasn’t involved, someone who wasn’t family or even a friend to hear what she’s been going through.
“Eve, I know you’re there.” Kai started to say, knocking on the door again. “Let me in.” The door starts to jingle as he tests to see if the door was unlocked. It was. After a couple moments of silence from both sides of the door, Kai opens the unlocked door, coming into the room. Noticing how she looks, he goes over to her, sitting down on the bed facing her.
“What are you doing, eve? You’re being swallowed by this grief and I'm starting to worry about you. Everyone is. Lexie wouldn’t want to see you like this” Kai has started saying but the mention of Lexie ends up triggering Eve as she spoke up, her voice raspy from all the crying she’s done. “How dare you talk about Lexie like that!” Eve starts to scream, tears streaming down her face. “Don’t you think I know she wouldn’t want to see me like this?! I lost someone who I loved and she died!” Eve ends up crying hysterically.
Sliding down the bed, Kai is now close to her, holding her in his arms as she cries. Tears start to slide down his face, failing to keep himself together for Eve. With tears running down her own face, Eve takes one look at Kai and kisses him.
