After the girls both showered, all Lexie could have thought about was Eve and what could have happened. She was about to kiss her best friend who she’s in love with. With Eve’s actions, there’s a chance she felt the same way. Her heart fluttered at that thought, Eve liking her back. With a smile on her face, she kept thinking about Eve, even though she was now sleeping right next to her.
The weekend went by in a flash as it’s already Monday morning. Lexie calls Kai hoping he was awake at this hour. Groggily, Kai answers. “Hello? Lexie? What’s wrong?” He says, knowing she normally doesn’t call him at this hour. “Nothing’s wrong, I just wanted to talk.” She sounded hesitant as he sat up in his bed, giving his friend all his attention now.
“Alright, what’s up? you don’t normally call this early in the morning.” With him saying that, Lexie spilled everything. Everything that happened during the weekend; from watching movies to the flour fight. “Kai, I’m in love with Eve.” Lexie was blunt as she told him. She knew she’d stall and not tell him if she did stall. She didn’t want to hesitate anymore, she knows what she feels and she wants her feelings to become reality.
This took Kai by surprise. He always liked Lexie, even had a crush on her ever since they met. He was too caught up in his own feelings for her that he didn’t notice her feelings for Eve. “Wow, well that was very blunt,” he starts, giving off a small, nervous laugh. “That’s amazing though. I’ll support you with whatever or whoever you want, Lexie. You know how your parents are though, they’re very obvious on being against same s*x relationships. I’m worried about that for you two.”
That wasn’t a lie; Mrs. and Mr. Collins were very against anything to do with the same s*x. They’re the type of people to blame their own views on being Christain. Some people might even say they’re extremists for their religion. In any case, they’re those people. “I know, I know how my parents will react. That’s why I'm going to keep it a secret from them. I really like her, Kai. I don’t know how long I can last without doing nothing. I wanted to kiss her after the flour fight, Kai. I want her as mine. So badly.” Tears start to form in her eyes as she talks but Lexie quickly wipes them away, not wanting to have a tear streaked face when she goes into school.
“On a different note, I should get going. Before I do though, wanna go shopping when I get out of school? Eve’s birthday is next month and I got nothing for her.” Now it was her time to give a nervous laugh. Normally she’s on top of birthday presents but this time, she got too busy. “Sure, I’ll meet you at the mall. See you then.” With the final goodbye, Kai hung up first.
School was uneventful. Mrs. Jones didn’t bother Lexie this time and everything was seemingly normal. Lexie wasn’t complaining though, just means school life was going back to normal. After school, Lexie told Eve she was going to be busy so she can’t hang out after school. She didn’t like lying to her best friend but to make sure her birthday surprise party was a surprise, she had to lie.
As Lexie was getting close to the mall, she texts Kai, letting him know she’s almost there. Kai had work today anyway so he was already at the mall. It’s been awhile since they hung out together, just the two of them. Eve was always with them and it was made into a group hang out session. As Lexie parks and got out of the car, she walks into the mall and heads straight for Kai’s place of work.
“I’m here kai and I'm ready to go shopping.” With a wide smile, Lexie announced her presence from the doorway of the store. Kai turns around and walks straight towards Lexie, wrapping her up in a hug. Lexie returns the hug as they split apart after a while, “Are you ready, kid?” He asked, knowing she hated being called a kid. With an eye roll, she just nods and they start walking around.
“So,” Lexie starts, looking at his face before she continues. “Do you even know what you’re getting her as a present?” With those words he stopped walking, giving her a blank stare. “Uh,” he hesitates, pausing for a couple moments. “No, I was just going to pick something similar to you.Do you have something in mind?” With a shake of her head, they both sighed. Since they stopped right in the middle of the walkway of the mall, they went to the side so they’re not in anyone's way.
“How about jewelry?” Kai asks, motioning towards the jewelry shop that was right across from where they’re standing. “Sure, can’t go wrong with that.” Lexie responds while Kai just nods in agreement. Walking into the shop, they both look around, going to different areas. “What about something that has something with all three of us in it?” Lexie suggests. Kai was silent for a moment, thinking about what was suggested. “That sounds like a great idea, actually.” He finally responds after almost a full minute later.
With that in mind, they look for something that can have all three of something with them. “Hello,” the desk clerk at the front of the store who was just standing at the case with expensive jewelry in it says. “How about stones? Maybe birthstones? I can have them put in real quick for you since we have an abundance of birthstone gems.” The two looked at each other and nodded in agreement. “Great, I have a few pieces over here that would go perfect with that.” The clerk smiles and motions to a few pieces that can be used for such a thing.
A couple minutes went by and they left the store, thanking the clerk for the help. Lexie bought a bracelet with the birthstones in it; emerald, amethyst and aquamarine. Kai bought a necklace with the stones, they’re arranged in a triangle unlike the bracelet which is arranged in a straight line. They both chose a silver chain so it can match with each other. “They’re beautiful,” Lexie starts to say. “I’m certain Eve would love these pieces.”
Kai was about to answer but stopped, pausing in his footing which made Lexie also stop just to look at him. “What’s wrong?” Lexie asks, now curious on why he stopped walking. In response, Kai just puts a finger to his lips, motioning for her to be quiet and points straight ahead. She looked in the direction of his pointing and saw what made him stop. Eve was right there, entering a shop but stopping right at the entrance, looking straight at them. Waving, she runs towards her two friends. “Hey you two, I thought you were busy, Lexie.” Suspicion is laced in Eve’s tone when stating that. It sounded like a question but it was more of a statement.
Quickly, Lexie and Kai hid the bags with Eve’s present in them behind their backs. “Yea I was,” Lexie started, trying not to seem weird as she talked. “I was shopping and bumped into Kai just now.” Lexie takes out her phone and texts Kai, knowing he has his phone on vibrate and he’ll see the message. “Hey,” She begins, looking at Eve and Kai, trying to give Kai a look that’ll go unnoticed by Eve. “I gotta go, mom wants me home.”
Without waiting for a reply, Lexie runs off, leaving Kai and Eve alone. “Well that was weird.” Eve mumbles as Kai takes out his phone and notices the text from Lexie saying, “Follow my lead, I’ll be going home but try to get away and hide the present. She cannot know what we’re planning.” Understanding what he has to do, Kai begins to speak up. “Yea I gotta go too. See you around Eve.” And with those parting words, Eve was alone.
Eve was very confused about what just happened. Why were they hiding something from her? She began to think that maybe they were dating. The more Eve thought about that possibility, the more it seems plausible. Why would they keep that a secret though? It’s not like they had a reason to keep it a secret. The thought made Eve angry, though she didn’t know why. Anger and Jealousy is what she felt when she thought about those two dating. But why jealousy? It’s not like Eve liked Kai. Then it hit her. What if it wasn’t Kai who made her feel jealousy but what if it was Lexie? Did she like Lexie? Her best friend?
It’s been a month since Eve realised her own feelings. Eve liked Lexie. The thought of Lexie with someone else made her jealous and made her rethink everything she thought she knew about herself. They’ve been friends for so long she wanted to deny it but she no longer could.
“Did you get the hotel set up for tonight?” Kai’s phone pings, reading Lexie’s text. “Of course. I have everything set up and ready for tonight. All you need to do is bring Eve.” The plan was to bring Eve to the hotel room with the rouse of the three of them having a sleepover for her birthday. Tonight is going to be fun, the three of them drinking as Kai brought the alcohol from his parents liquor cabinet.
