CHAPTER 8
Damien's POV
I seated patiently in the restaurant waiting for her. I wanted information about me with a woman to get to him. So no suspicion about my marriage news. I finally saw her.
At a distance. She shone so bright. The red gown she had on suits her so well. I thought she was pretty — but no she's gorgeous.
My eyes refused to leave her, as if trying to pierce a hole through her. I stood up. My eyes still not leaving, pulled out a sit for her.
I could tell she was surprised by the gesture.
She sat down. I did too
We exchanged a few words. That was all. Back to the silence. My eyes now to my phone awaiting our order. I could tell she was staring. She felt awkward.
Our meal finally arrived.
I picked up my cutlery. Lifted my eyes to her about to eat when I noticed blood. A nosebleed. I reached for a handkerchief and stretched it out to her. She took it almost immediately “toilet” she asked.
I pointed towards the direction. She left. Walked towards the direction.
Must be stress. I thought to myself. I continued my dinner. Without her.
I was done eating and she still wasn't out. “Could she have passed out” I thought.
I got up.
About going in the direction she went, when I saw her walk out. Slowly. She looked drained. Tired.
“I thought you passed out in there, have your dinner and let's go” I said to her coldly.
“No need, I'm not hungry” she said weakly.
I proceeded outside and she followed. Walking slowly behind.
We got in the car. Her gaze outside the window. It was like her soul left her body.
By the time we got home she was fast asleep.
She seemed so peaceful. I tapped her. Her eyes open “we're here” I told her.
I came down but she didn't. I stood for a few seconds and turned to her side of the car.
I opened the door and there she was still sleeping.
I picked her up. In my arms. Still sleeping she was.
How can she be so light — too light. I carried her up the stairs to her room.
Layed her on the bed. She folded in a cute way, almost immediately her back touched the bed.
I covered her with a blanket and walked out the room.
I went to mine. Took my bath and got into bed. The image of her walking into the restaurant seemed to taunt me.
Eventually I fell asleep.
I woke up the next morning. Business mode activated.
Had breakfast. I was done with breakfast and still no sign of her.
I gave Mali a phone and a black card “for her” I said and walked away.
____________________
It's been weeks since I last saw her.
Due to blocked shipping routes. Problems keeps popping up.
My goods are left with no way out and my buyer are not so patient.
Tried to get my goods in through a rival's route but my good got hijacked. Inside job it was.
I lost two men trying to get it back. Caught the bad egg, took just one bullet to get rid of him. Got my goods back. Buyers satisfaction. Another problem.
I was busy too busy.
Haven't yet introduced her to old Voss.
When I leave in the morning she's always still sleeping. Nights when I'm home she's no where to be found.
I got home earlier than I used to asked mali where she was “in her room” she said. “Sleeping I suppose” I said to Mali she didn't reply.
I walked up the stairs going to my room but I suddenly has this nudge to go see her. I turned around. Walked to her room. I got there.
I didn't knock, I just entered.
There she was, a towel wrapped around her chest, her hair down and damp. She was taking a pill.
She was surprised to see me. Her expression changed slightly. “ can't you knock” she said.
“This is my house” I shot back at her.
“I haven't seen you in ages, what brings you here” she asked.
“ Incase you forgot we still have a contract, and I came to see you regarding that” I said.
“Okay” “lemme change I'll be right with you” she said to me.
She didn't seem to fear me, not even a little.
I didn't leave the room, I found my self a sit and sat down awaiting her. She walked into her walk-in closet to change.
I looked around her room and noticed changes. Not as dark or dim as before. The interior was bright. You could tell a lady lives here.
Her scent filled the entire room. It was a mix of chocolate and flowers, the kind of scent that make you feel light, comfortable. I wanted to embrace the scent.
She finally came out. A cute set of pajamas was what she had on. Her legs open till her thighs.
I noticed a bruise on her left thigh. I walked towards her noticing other bruises on her. “What's this” I asked Touching collar bone where another bruise was. She flinched.
“I fell, the other day” she said.
I stepped back from her.
“We'll be meeting my father tomorrow, at a public events and our wedding will follow shortly” I said. She only gave me a slight nod and turned around to leave. Got to the door. My hands on the doornob “dress well, don't make those bruises visible” I said before leaving the room.
I went downstairs not for anything but to ask Mali why my wife to be had bruises on her. “She was coming down the stairs when she fainted and fell” she said
“Why wasn't I informed” I said angrily.
“She woke up quickly, asked us not to call the doctor or tell you” she said.
“ I'm your boss not her” I said and turned around proceeding to my room.
