Tyler almost took a retreating step and turned back the way he’d come from. Maybe it was a bad time. He paused, hesitating.
Too late.
Lockjaw saw him first.
The bird lifted its head from where it was resting in the grass close to its master.
Tyler acted on instinct- he made a “shhh” gesture to Lockjaw and then remembered the bird may not have any idea what that meant. Tyler had no idea if familiars were versed with human gestures- or at least with most of them.
To his surprise, however, Lockjaw turned his head in the other direction and pretended Tyler wasn’t there. The bird really acted very much like a human sometimes.
