The high of the gala confrontation evaporated the moment they stepped into the quiet of the legal office. The doors closed behind them with a soft, final click, a sound too small for the weight it carried, sealing out the noise and heat of the city as effectively as a vault. The laughter, the flashes, the collective gasp of witnesses, all of it was left outside, reduced to memory. Inside, the air felt thinner. Sterile. As if emotion itself had been filtered out.
