CHAPTER 7- ALEX'S FIRST PROTECTION

CHAPTER 7 Elliott's POV Roy suddenly stepped in front of me, blocking my path. “Elliott, you should come train with me.” “What?!” I stuttered, watching Alex walk away. “Can we do this later?” My eyes kept drifting past Roy as Alex disappeared up the stairs toward the dorms. “Are you going somewhere else?” Roy asked. I sighed. Maybe I'd just see Alex later. He was already gone. “Let's go,” I said with a small smile. He took me to a different field—small, quiet, and abandoned-looking. “The school used this place for combat training once, but now it isn't used anymore,” Roy explained. I nodded. “Have you turned?” he asked. I pushed my glasses up and scratched the bridge of my nose. “No. And you?” “I turned last year. Want to see my wolf?” He shifted instantly into a brown wolf with soft, sleek fur. A wicked idea popped into my head. I smirked. “How about I train with you in that form?” “What?!” his wolf huffed. “I doubt you can beat me in wolf form, even if I fought you in my human form.” “We'll see.” I winked and rolled up my sleeves. Roy charged at me. I dodged and rolled to the side. “I met the Rank One student,” I said, panting as I jumped, flipped midair, kicked Roy from behind, and landed on my feet. “Wow, that's cool!” he exclaimed. I smirked. “The Rank One student you're talking about is Lucian.” “His name is Lucian?” I asked, ducking another swipe. “Yeah. He bullies new students a lot. Have you heard of the Nightshade Pack?” “Yeah. They're really strong.” Father used to tell me stories about a brave young Alpha who saved his pack from another Alpha who tried to steal their land. “That Alpha was Lucian's brother,” Roy said. “But he died shortly after taking the Alpha seat, and Lucian took over.” “So he's an Alpha?” I asked, wiping sweat from my face as we both caught our breath. “Yes. He came to Moonlight High to train while his Beta manages the pack. He's treated better than everyone else. Elder Gideon clings to ranks like it's his second skin. The lower your rank, the more you suffer in Lucian's hands.” He paused. “I saw him with you in the hall. Did something happen?” I shook my head. “He just asked me to see him afterward.” Roy's eyes widened. “Did you go?” I shook my head again. He groaned. “He'll send his minions soon. We should head back to the dorm.” We walked back together. Alex lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling with his eyes closed. Just as we entered, someone knocked. “Go to the bathroom—just in case it's them.” I nodded and hurried inside. Roy's voice echoed through the room. “Step aside.” That voice. Chris. The guy who mocked my rank. “What are you doing here, Chris?” Roy asked. “Don't make me move you. Lucian ordered us here. Either bring him out, or we enter and take him by force.” I pressed my head against the bathroom wall, grinding my teeth. Not because I was scared. No. I just needed to stay unnoticed until I found what I was looking for. Still, the urge to march out and punch Lucian and Chris right in their arrogant faces itched beneath my skin. “Ranks, my foot,” I muttered. I was about to step out when a loud thud sounded outside. “Oh no. Roy,” I whispered. I reached for the doorknob— Then another voice stopped me. “He's not here. Are you deaf?” Alex. I cracked the door open slightly and peeked outside. “No one's talking to you, nobody,” Chris spat. “Son of a lowly Beta. You're lucky they gave you Rank Two. Rank Five would've suited you better.” I stared at Alex. How could anyone talk to him like that? Did they not know he was the Alpha of Crescent Moon? Was his rank a secret here? Is that why he wore a mask back in the pack? Did Father know he was attending this school undercover? “Bring him out now, or you'll incur Alpha Lucian's wrath,” Chris barked. I clenched my fists so tightly my knuckles cracked. Alex stood and walked toward the bathroom. Oh, Moon Goddess. What is he doing? I pressed my back against the wall and squeezed my eyes shut. “Hey. Come out.” Alex opened the bathroom door. I looked up and found myself staring directly into his eyes. “Huh?” I asked innocently, as though I hadn't been hiding the entire time. He didn't answer. He simply walked away. I groaned inwardly and cursed under my breath. Slowly, I stepped out. “That's the low-life scum,” Chris sneered. His two lackeys laughed along with him. “Seize him!” Chris ordered. Roy stepped forward immediately as the two boys advanced toward me. “You won't take him.” He spread his arms wide. “I know what you intend to do, but those punishments of yours will kill him. He's new. I'll teach him everything he needs to know. He won't cross your path again.” My gaze softened. Roy wasn't just kind. He was brave. But Chris rolled his eyes and signaled his men. They shoved Roy aside. “Alpha Lucian is already pissed. You can explain it to him yourself,” Chris hissed. I glanced at Alex. He looked completely unbothered. Like this was perfectly normal Tuesday behavior. I could fight them, but that would only draw attention to myself. And I wasn't ready for that. The two boys grabbed my shirt. My eyes widened. They were dangerously close to grabbing something they absolutely shouldn't. Damn these arrogant bastards. “Lower your gaze, low-life!” Chris shouted. I refused. My eyes remained locked on his. “I said lower your damn gaze!” He raised his hand to strike— And Alex caught it. With one effortless shove, Chris stumbled backward. “Leave,” Alex ordered. The two boys holding me immediately let go. Then they ran. Chris hesitated for only a second before following after them. I stood frozen, my breath caught in my throat. What the hell... was he doing?
