CHAPTER 6- THE RANKED ONE STUDENT

1003 Words
CHAPTER 6 Elliott's POV Alpha Alex is disguised as a Beta's son. That's odd. If he's really registered as one, why is someone like him attending Moonlight High under a false identity? Roy mentioned there was only one Rank One student, and that was supposed to be an Alpha. Alexander is an Alpha, so why is he ranked Two? And speaking of him, it's strange seeing him move around here without his mask. I cleared my throat, unsure of what to do, then awkwardly stretched out my hand toward him. Alex looked at me, his face devoid of emotion, then simply walked to his bed, leaving me standing there. I felt stupid. The ground should just open up and swallow me whole. Roy laughed sheepishly, grabbed my hand, and pulled me aside. “You shouldn't pay much attention to him. He's always like that—just let him be.” I nodded and glanced back at Alex. He sat on his bed, flipping through a notebook. He looked quiet and distant, like someone who preferred his own company. My lips twitched as I shook my head. NEXT DAY The bell rang loudly, echoing through the room. My ears throbbed, and I winced, pressing my palms over them. “Oh, Moon Goddess,” I groaned. “I still want to sleep.” I buried my face deeper into the pillow and hugged it tighter. “Stop whining like a lady and get down to the hall.” A voice spoke from the doorway. Then the door shut with a soft click. I blinked, staring at it. Was that Alex just now? Roy burst into the room, panting. “Are you still in bed?!” “The c**k hasn't even crowed yet,” I muttered. “What's all the fuss about?” Roy yanked the blanket off me. “Elder Gideon doesn't take lateness kindly. You'll be punished—probably asked to wash the toilets or worse!” “The toilets?” My eyes flew open. I jumped out of bed and scrambled into my uniform. I adjusted my glasses, straightened my trousers, and ran out with Roy. As we rushed down the stairs, I froze. Elder Gideon walked ahead of us, his expression dark. “What's wrong?” Roy asked, turning back. “Why don't you go ahead without me?” I said quickly. “You forgot something?” I nodded. “Alright. Don't be late,” he said before jogging toward the hall. I turned down the opposite corridor. It led to the staff section. Elder Gideon's voice boomed from inside his office, harsh and commanding. “You haven't found her yet?!” His fist slammed against the table. “We have to find that letter quickly! I don't care what you do—just bring me his daughter. There's no way she's left the pack already. I've checked with the others. No rogue has entered their territory.” His breathing sounded ragged. I pressed my back against the wall, frowning. They were definitely talking about me. But rogue? They had already branded me one? And what letter was he talking about? I was still processing everything when I heard footsteps approaching. I quickly stepped back, hiding behind a column until the door opened. As soon as Elder Gideon stormed off toward the hall, I exhaled shakily. “Damn it,” I muttered under my breath before running after him. By the time I reached the hall, the doors were already closing. I slipped inside just in time. Elder Gideon stood on the stage. Every student was seated and silent. Every pair of eyes turned toward me. I spotted Roy in the middle row. He looked worried. I lowered my head and sighed. “I'm definitely washing toilets,” I muttered. “Why are you late?” Elder Gideon snapped. “He's with me.” A deep voice cut through the hall. I turned. A boy walked in with a stick of candy between his lips. His movements were lazy, one hand buried in his pocket as he strolled forward with effortless confidence. He placed an arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer. “He's a new student,” he said smoothly. “I had to show him around.” Elder Gideon exhaled, visibly irritated but willing to let it slide. I glanced up at him, noticing the faintly mocking smirk on his face. Then my gaze dropped to the number stitched onto his chest. My breath caught. “Rank One,” I whispered. “Don't repeat this again, Lucian,” Elder Gideon warned. Meanwhile, Alex walked in as well, expression unreadable. He didn't even acknowledge Elder Gideon. He simply took a reserved seat near the front. I started toward an empty seat at the back, but Lucian's arm tightened around my shoulders. “What the hell?” “I'll see you after the announcement,” he said with a smile that looked anything but friendly. Then he shoved me away. I coughed lightly and stared at him in disbelief. Eyes were already on me, so I quietly made my way to the back. After Elder Gideon's speech, everyone headed to the training field. The hierarchy was impossible to miss. Rank Fives stood to the side. Rank Fours sat on benches while Rank Fives held umbrellas over them. Ranks Three and Two rested beneath a canopy. And Rank One sat alone beneath a large tent, his area roped off and his chair heavily cushioned. I scoffed. Ridiculous. I turned to leave until someone tapped my shoulder. I looked back. The student pointed toward Lucian. He was motioning for me to come over. Across the field, students were already taking turns sparring and training. I had no interest in joining. Elder Gideon was clearly hiding something, and time was running out. I was about to ignore the summons when I noticed Alex leaving the field. I glanced between Alex and Lucian. It was a difficult choice. But I made it. I followed Alex.
