CHAPTER 9- THE SELECTION

1179 Words
I pulled the blanket closer to myself, my heart wouldn't stop beating. The cupboard I found with Tristan was EMPTY. It felt…. Strange…off. I rolled from side to side on the bed, restlessness eating my inside like worms desperately carving a hole through a wood Slowly my head fell to the side. ALEX'S POV What worse could happen? Those were my thoughts when my eyes snapped open. Max wouldn't stop whispering words into my ears. At first, I turned side to side on my bed, the feeling felt…. Familiar like years ago but nothing ever happened just has Max had predicted and now it's happening again. “My instincts are never wrong Alex, it's happening again I can feel it.” A low groan escaped my lips. “I don't have time for your tantrums Max, just go to sleep.” “Stand up! Alex!“ Max tone was more serious now, I didn't realize when my feet moved on its own. My eyes turned golden brown, my body moved on its own disobeying every of my command. Max had taken over— no this felt different, I can still feel Max, he is silent. I clung my chest, as I almost stumbled a strange familiar scent pulling me closer. My lungs tighten, breath came in short gasps. Max was letting me feel it— my curse. ”Whats going on?“ I groaned inwardly, trying to speak with Max but there was no response. For the past years, I never understood my curse fully, it all started with tiny red spots on my face that itch for hours and loud screams in my head making my heart beat increased. But now….. I paused, let out a gasp, swallowed in as my feet continued to pull itself towards the scent. As if that could stop whatever was happening now. Yet, why was I moving towards….. Elliott??? My eyes snapped back to normal, like I had just came out of a trance and I realized what I was doing. I stayed standing next to Elliott's bed, my eyes directly on him. He looked like a bag of potatoes all wrapped up together. ”Tch.“ I scoffed inwardly and turned to leave. Then a low groan made me pause, he turned his face to my side, still sleeping. My brows cringed, I moved closer, and closer…. And closer till my face was above his. This scent…… it felt….. really familiar. Was it from him all along? Why did you pull me to you Elliot? Was it you all along? My thoughts were swirled with questions and Max was no longer responding, felt like he retreated into a corner leaving me alone to deal with this. He mumbled some inaudible words in his sleep, I stood up anyways to leave and then again— I felt a touch, my eyes turned golden the ache in my chest was back again. he held my leg. I turned sharply, his eyes wide open staring at me but still sleepy. ”Don't leave.“ he muttered and his eyes closed back, his grip on my leg loosening. Who the hell are you Elliot? ******* ELLIOT'S POV The day should have began with the loud bell, joggling students off their bed. But my sleep was peaceful for long, not untill I felt a strange sensation, at first it felt sweet, calm not until I felt it slowly going in. My hand flew to my ear hitting it lightly. A strange grin….. My eyes forced itself open and that's when I felt the weight pressing on me. The hell! My eyes snapped open, I tried to stand and then I turned. Roy cackled out a laughter so loud Alex screamed from his bed side. “Sorry,” he muttered, the laughter coming out in mocking ripples. Roy was sitting over me. “Morning.“ He said with a joyful look getting up. I dipped my left index finger in my ear scratching it. ”Whats so good about the morning?“ A yawn escaped me. ”Oh yeah, you have no idea.“ Roy grinned, standing in front of me, putting on a black short, and a white pollo and a black band ties around his head. ”We are going hunting.“ He sounded so excited, much more excited than I had seen him since I first came to the school. ”What's so special about it anyway? I can barely catch a rat not to talk of whatever is out there in the bush.“ I moaned, stretching my arms and legs, then turned to the other side of the bed, placing my pillow over me. Then a s***k, on my f*****g butt. My eyes widened as I sprang up. ”Why'd you do that?!“ my nose flared, my eyes sharp. Alex turned to our direction, Roy looked confused. I blinked, as realization hits me. ”Lets go hunting.“ I forced a cringe laugh, to ease the tension. Roy watches me stand up without another word, quietly offered my hunting dress to me. Turns out I'm red. ”But why red?…..Does it mean I'll be on a different team?“ ”Exactly, but don't worry, Alex is also on your team. He might be annoying but I doubt he would leave one of his own.“ he smiled with a nod. The smile wasn't satisfying in any way. Looked like he just wanted me to be at ease. ”You must've done somethings on the same team before, has he ever left you?“ The question seemed to bring back ugly memories, as Roy stopped abruptly. Looked at Alex then he shook his head. ”Lets just forget about that.“ “But—” “Put on your dress Elliot, Elder Gideon will be on the field and trust me you don't want to do anything that will make him turn you to an after hunting entertainment.” he said with stern warning. Minutes later, I returned from the bathroom my clothes on, a red band tied on my head. “What if I lose?“ Roy spun towards me, shook his head slowly and said in an eerie tone. ”You…don't…want….to…lose…Elliott.“ ”Phew, that's scary.“ I blinked. ”It will be more scary when you loose, just make sure you have three catches. You are on same team with Alex, I'm sure you'll both do great.“ he grinned. ”Hey, that's not funny!“ I screamed at him. I really can't believe I would have to depend on Alex on this. ”Hey, but don't worry, I'm certain Alex likes you. I saw him next to your bed last night.“ Roy whispered in my ear. ”What?!—” Roy was out of the room in an instant. “Next to my bed?“ I muttered looked at Alex, out eyes met and I quickly turned aside. He tied his red band around his head and walked out of the room without sparing me another glance.
