Flowers and gifts for the dead say something different and Jack Joy has seen various mementos covering the flat headstones of Emerald Lawn. Statues, matchbox cars, baseball caps, canned and bottled beverages, figurines, photographs in ziplock bags, and letters to the dead written by the living left on the headstones affected by the sun, wind, and rain. All those things were gifts or tokens of affection. Flowers for the dead meant remembering, love, and, for some, faith that they would meet again.
