Chapter Three :Ambrose’s POV

3143 Words
I watched as Chumara walked behind the counter, more so glided with the way she swayed with grace. Dominic growls low, his approval of my description. I smirk, as he says “She wants us, we should take her now,” I hush him saying, “It’s not the time to be such an animal,” laughing to myself. Nik let’s out an exasperated sigh while fighting not to look in Trilla’s direction, “you have a feisty one on your hands,” I simply grin and say I love that fire in her. I began walking him out the door, more like dragged him as he just would not stop focusing on Mara’s little sister. I was starting to think I would have to knock the man out and fireman carry him till he picked up his feet and began walking out the door with me. Once we were outside Nik let out a war cry like I have never heard. I grab my chest in fake shock saying, “heavens help him.” He looks at my hand clutching my chest then up at my face, he shakes his head slowly as he speaks up, “I believe you now.” Sighing and shaking my head I ask him, “You believe me now, what happen to, yeah, Ambrose your always right, and what is the nature of the subject you believe me on,” I say as we walk around the back to where I parked. I take the keys out of my pocket as he says, “I believe that you found your mate. Now, at first I was skeptical because women gush over you all the time.” I turn and look him in the eyes fighting the urge to mush the vampire, “well of course I found my mate what women do has nothing to do with my judgement. That doesn’t explain why I should care that you believe me especially, when you just refer to me as a womanizer” I say as I am unlocking the SUV door. Nik barked out going to the passenger side of my SUV “You can say that till, your blue in the face man, but you have been on the hunt to no avail ever since we met that shaman in the tavern.” I bite my tongue not wanting to hurt the vampires’ feelings as Nik played in his hair, fidgeting while he finished speaking. “But Ambrose, dude, its not just the magical pull you were talking about it’s instinctual and I feel it with Trilla. I never felt this type of calling, I know she is my mate, I can feel my blood flowing again as if I was human.” I spin around looking at him, “I heard you when you said it in there, but you need to be sure before you pull another stunt like that again. “Lord help you if it happens in front of their older sister, now get in the SUV I got a schedule to keep.” I shake my head turning back, opening the driver side door, I ask Nikolai picking fun at his 21st century logic, “So you must believe in the drunken shaman’s tale as well, because I know, I am going off of my instincts as an old dragon”. Cranking up, Nik snatches the door open hopping in, “No Ambrose, I know you are being sarcastic, but I believe you, that shaman, though he spoke little truth I can tell he was just a drunk telling love stories filling an entertainment need.” He buckles up, shooting me daggers, I glance at him pulling out on to the main road headed out of town. “At this point I don’t care anymore what I believe, I just wanna know why you didn’t want me to come to the bakery, you just kept telling me to go to the office.” Nik paused sounding suspicious. “Relax Nik, first things first, Chumara is mine. I wanted time with her and not to see your ugly mug first thing in the morning, that’s why I tell you to meet me at the office every morning.” Nik takes my words to heart and relaxes back, taking a deep breath, and states, “Well that’s all out the window now, because I am going to stop by every day, I know she is at work!” I groan with a sarcastic excitement “Yay, I get to see you everywhere now.” I drive to the mall in the neighboring city wanting to get something special for Chumara. After a few miles of silence Nik starts up again with more questions. “So, you are telling me that with all the age and wisdom you keep throwing in my face, that you had no idea about her sister,” he says rolling down the window nearly sticking his head all the way out. Pulling into the mall parking lot, I park giving Nikolai my full attention. “Look man, this is sudden for me as well, and her name is Trilla, just so you know,” Nik just stares at me, so I continue. “The day we flew in is the day I found Chumara, I didn’t really put it together even when Trilla did say that Chumara was her sister I was more focused on controlling my beast, not to mention Trilla is not my mate, so I was far from paying attention to the girl.” Nik Breathes deeply “well from the way she looks, she is not a girl, she is a woman,” before saying “I hope you are going to research our mates now, because their family is different, I don’t see how we can be connected like this without reason,” I chuckle, tapping the stirring wheel, “of course Nik I have no choice now two of the sisters are our mates it only makes me more interested to find out about their family.” Nikolai’s mouth drops open as he steps out the SUV, “Wait did you say two of the sisters,” I look at Nik curiously as I rounded the vehicle going over to him. “Yes, they also have an older sister named Storm, which was the one she was with at the bar the other day,” Nik smiles, a glint of mischief in his eyes as he reaches in his pocket sending a message quickly, he says “oh s**t,” before replacing the phone in his pocket. I look at him confused and ask, “What was that?” Nikolai beats me to the point saying, “this is definitely a weird town, I think our local friendly contractor had a run in with the would-be elder sister, and he said she is definitely a force of nature as her name suggest,” Fate is funny but now I think she is making a show of things.” I chuckle and ask, “so this was a romantic run in, was it?” Nik grinning says, “Well with the way Sphinx is going on about her, he appears to be very interested in her, but you would have to ask Sphinx.” As we were walking into the building, we notice that the mall was not as packed today, but we figured that was because of the parade we drove through on the way here. We walked around the mall talking about the girls when I come up to an elegant Jeweler and spot a beautiful necklace. It was designed with white diamonds and gorgeous emeralds. I envisioned It laying perfectly across Chumara’s neck, so I purchased it without hesitation. We walked past a few more stores before this green dress caught my eye. I suddenly saw Chumara’s curves filling it out and the idea of the color matching my eyes felt like I was marking my mate. Dominic woke up to that thought, growling low, wanting more than anything to mark his territory. My phone suddenly kept going off distracting me with the buzzing in my pocket, I look to see who is so persistent seeing that it was Sarah, I ignore her and continue shopping for my love. I purchase the dress, ignoring the blonde cashier obviously trying to flirt, but I give a kind smile and say it is for someone special hoping she would stop but she just wrote her number down on my receipt. Walking over to Nik, I asked him if he liked the dress. “Ambrose you’re not serious, are you?” he says looking between the dress and me, “No, I’m not” I say laughing. “Your lady will like it though, try putting it in pretty packaging first” he says as we walk toward the gift-wrapping store. I pick the most expensive box and ribbon, because Mara deserved the best, as the elderly woman at the counter wrapped the dress. She paused an asked, “now I know this isn’t for just some random woman and I hate to be nosey, but this price tag is outrageous.” I hear Nik singing his own tune over my shoulder while walking away, “no, not just any woman, oh no, not just any woman, but the woman, that’s the one, that’s oh so true.” Obviously singing about Trilla and I roll my eyes and say to the lady “well, Mrs. Scotts” I read her name tag, as the nit-wits song goes I think I’ve found my forever.” She smiles sealing the box with a shiny satin emerald green finishing bow, she says good luck as we walk out the store. Nik ask me if there was anything else we were getting before going to meet with Sphinx at the office. I say, “yes one last thing.” I quickly step in the shoe store and purchase a pair of white six-inch Louis Vuitton heels to go with the dress. Dom then flashes a vision of me kissing down her leg and sliding the heels off while lying in front of my fireplace. We get into the SUV heading back to the regional office outside of Marseille. Once at the office the guard ID us and started rambling on saying he was sorry it was protocol even though he knew who we were. I waved him off thanking him for doing his job for us. We hit the elevator when Sarah rushes on with us saying “hey Nik and Rose dear,” batting her eye lashes, Dom growls in annoyance of her calling me Rose. I have never really liked her, but she was one hell of a receptionist. I cut her off and tell her, “It’s Mr. WHITE, to you, Nik looks at her smiling stopping me from saying something I’m sure was going to be mean, “well afternoon Sarah bear, what’s caused you to rush to us as soon as we get in the building,” he says leaning against the elevator wall putting on his best seductive pose. I look over her head thanking him for pulling her attention, he continues looking her way and says “please tell us its good news” she looks meekly between us and lets out a breath, I can tell she has been holding. “Look Rose” she says, and I immediately growl startling her, she recants and says “Mr. White, Nik, I know you had told me to tell you when Sphinx arrived” she stammers “and I really did make sure everything was locked down, but when I opened up your office door he was napping on your sofa.” Sarah fidgets a little before she says she is really sorry. I feel bad for the girl as she looks up at me, but I am saved as the elevator dings on the top floor. I circle around Sarah saying it was fine getting off the elevator. I grumble to Nik that at the next office location the CEO’s office should be on the main floor and behind sheer iron doors. Nik laughs, “wellbeing on the main floor you’re going to need doors that only you can open,” I laugh with him opening the doors, suddenly Dominic chimes in, “alone with mate,” I pause at the office doors, laughing at Dom enjoying the idea more and more. I stop and stand in front of the old cat using my couch as a bed, “aye man, I know you are not asleep in my office right now,” I say knocking Sphinx’s foot off the arm of my couch. He grumbles “No, I can’t go to sleep with Nik texting me about Storm” adjusting his position, but never opening his eyes. Nik shakes his head and sits in the chair I have facing my desk; Nik coughs and speaks up first after a brief silence as I put my suitcase down and Chumara’s gift on the desk.” Nik says “Well, I’ll be the first to say that I think there is something more going on here in this town than what the company is letting on.” I spin around with an angry shock. “Heavens Nikolai, I am the company and have been the company for 150 years”, I snap in disbelief, Nik throws up his hand in a gesture of wait a minute. “I am not saying anything against you, but it is the 21st century and you now have shareholders, investors, and other people that have a say.” So, I sit in the armchair, next to the bar, and fireplace wanting to throw something at the kid, but I know that he is right. “Ambrose, don’t get me wrong,” Sphinx says, interrupting what Nik was going to say as he sets up on the couch. “You are only part of your company, and we all know the board of directors like to play games, cause at this point I will not tell my men to move any more trees if they can’t get their issues with the permits and zoning problems together. The bear clan already has a problem with big corporations.” I look between them, and I sit up crossing my arms, admitting to myself that since the new shareholder joined, it is as if we are at a stale mate. “They really have been going back and forth since we landed in Marseille, it should not take this long to come to a final decision. I will definitely be at the next conference.” Nik looks at me and simply says “yes, but you have been focused on Chumara and sending me to all the meetings. Are you sure you’re going to be able to pull away,” I was about to tell Nik to know his place when Sphinx questions “Storm’s little sister?” I look at him curious “yes, her Little sister what of it? please don’t tell me Storm is your mate,” I shake my head remembering what the shaman said at the end of his story that my family would come in an unexpected set of three, I focus on him as I can see the wheels turning in his head, he just smiles and says, “nothing really just a shocker that I’m in a room with two guys that have shown interest in her sisters and have lived to tell the tale.” Sphinx jumps up smiling big,” but speaking of my rain cloud, I was heading that way in a few; but to answer your question yea I realized she was my mate when they came to town,” He then gathers his things and places a folder on my desk and says, “these are the new zoning papers once you get them approved, I will tell my guys to get back to work.” As he walks to the door he says, “I’ll catch you guys later,” I made a mental note to speak with him about his mate at some point as I suddenly remember Mara’s gift. “Hey, since you’re going that way, do you mind getting that to their house, I say pointing to the box on the desk. He agrees as he is making his way out the door with gift in hand. I look to Nik and ask, “how long do you think he has been seeing their sister?” He just shrugs his shoulders “from my knowledge it has been at least from the moment the girls moved into town, he did not lie when he told me that much, that woman calls him all the time.” Nik finished saying getting up to go pour himself a drink “hmmm, well now that is the real shocker” I smirk as Nik handed me a glass and we toast to finishing this build quickly and getting to our mates. Nik excuses himself saying “I am going to go pull some more paperwork on the building project and just letting you know I am going to do a little more family research on the girls.” So, I start the paperwork Sarah had left earlier when sphinx scared her, as Nik makes his exit commenting on how I needed to finish quick reminding me that I had a date later. I quickly finish out the rest of the day and head home, double checking that all my plans are ready. I want nothing to go wrong tonight, I want it all to be perfect. I finish my shower, get dressed in my best black Prada suit. Then call to see the helicopter is gassed and ready for flight. I walk out the door and get into my new deep ocean blue 2022 Bugatti, and start slowly down my long driveway, as to not get her dirty. As I am driving to pick up my little redhead, I get a text from and unknown number; reading don’t regret your fate. I shake my head ignoring the message as it couldn’t have been meant for me, I don’t give out my personal number to just anyone. I pull up at Chumara’s house, take a deep breath; readying myself for the vision, I know Mara was going to be, as I walk up to the door, ringing the bell. A few moments later Storm answers the door, letting me in with a warning, “Don’t make me f**k up your Prada” then she yells up the stairs, “Mara, he is here!”
