How It Went to This? Chapter 11 Week after week, the group became closer. But among all of them, one friendship was slowly becoming something different. Rhone and Borg. At first, they were just classmates. Then friends. Then the two idiots who somehow couldn't sit next to each other without laughing. --- “BROOO!” “HAHAHAHA!” Rhone and Borg were laughing so hard that half the classroom was already staring at them. The class president finally turned around. “HEY!” “You two, be quiet!” Rhone tried to calm himself down. “Okay, okay...” Borg was holding his stomach. “f**k, my tummy hurts.” The class president sighed. “OH MY GOD!” “If you two sit next to each other, you never stop laughing!” “How the f**k can you two talk for FOUR HOURS straight?!” “Every single day?!” Rhone looked at Borg. “Yo...” “Let's calm down.” “That gay mf is getting mad.” Borg nodded seriously. “Real.” They both immediately started laughing again. --- A few minutes later... Rhone looked at Borg. “Damn, bro.” “You even got a girlfriend?” Borg smiled. “Of course, bro.” “Goddamn.” “Here, look.” He showed Rhone a picture. Rhone's eyes widened. “AW SHIT.” “10/10.” “Have you two even met each other?” “Not yet.” “We're LDR.” Rhone looked at the picture again. "I'm actually not into LDR because LDR sucks cuz you can't even F***" “Anyway Bro...” “You sure that's not some poser?” “She looks way too good.” Borg immediately laughed. “f**k you, Rhone!” “HAHAHAHA!” “She’s real.” “We've been video calling and sending voice messages.” “I see, I see.” Rhone nodded. “Just remember something.” “Never beg someone to stay if they don't want to.” “If they leave, they leave.” “Don't destroy yourself trying to force someone to love you.” Borg stared at him. “Damn.” “That's actually deep.” Rhone shrugged. “I know.” Borg laughed. “Bro, you talk like you've been through ten divorces.” Rhone laughed. “Shut the f**k up.” --- Days became weeks. Weeks became months. And somehow... Their friendship kept getting stronger. The homie was slowly becoming a brother. Rhone and Borg eventually became known in their classroom for something else, too. Being absent legends. --- 11:05 A.M. Rhone was still half-asleep in his room when his phone vibrated. He opened one eye. “Hm?” “Who the f**k is this?” It was Borg. Borg: Yo Rhone, you going to school? Rhone stared at the message. He typed back. Rhone: Hmm... I'm already five minutes late. So I guess not. Borg replied almost immediately. Borg: Bro. Our class starts at 12:30. Rhone said. “...Oh.” Rhone: I'm late preparing. So no, I ain't going. Borg: LMAO. Alright. I ain't going either. Rhone smiled. --- The Next Day Borg: Yo, you going to school? Rhone: No. I wanna sleep. Borg: Okay. I ain't going too. --- The Next Day Borg: Yo. You going today? Rhone stared at the message. Then smiled. “Hehehe.” Rhone: Yes. I will. Borg: Alright. See you later. --- An hour later... Borg: FUCK YOU RHONE. Rhone burst out laughing. He sent a picture of himself lying comfortably in bed. Rhone: HEHEHE. At least you're gonna learn something today. HAHAHAHA. Study well, baby boy. Borg replied with several angry emojis. --- Despite barely attending school, somehow... They still passed. They were both the type of students who could disappear for days, cram everything at the last minute, show up for an exam, and somehow walk away with a decent grade. It made absolutely no sense. But it worked. Somehow. --- One afternoon, Borg replied to Rhone's social media story. Borg: GODDAMN. A NEW WOMAN?! WOMANIZER! Rhone laughed. Rhone: Nah, bro. I'm serious about this one. I'm being faithful. Borg replied: Borg: Nice. I'm proud of you. Good boy arc. Then another message appeared. Borg: Wait... I just realized you're really into short-haired Asian girls. Like your past exes. Zoe. Ally. Mia. Scalia. Ashley. Xaira. Mica. Sam. Rhone's eyes widened. “WAHHHHHH!” “f**k YOU!” “DELETE THAT s**t!” “SHE CAN READ THIS!” Borg immediately realized his mistake. Borg: AWW f**k. HAHAHAHA! Borg deleted the message. Rhone started laughing. “BRO!” --- At that point, they were still just good friends. They joked. They skipped school together. They helped each other with random things. They talked almost every day. But neither of them knew just how important the other would eventually become. Then... Six months later. 2036 — 8:00 P.M. Rhone sat alone in his room. His phone was in his hand. His eyes were red. He had been messaging his girlfriend for several minutes. Rhone: Please. I'm sorry. I promised I wouldn't lie. Please. But the messages stopped sending. Blocked. Rhone stared at the screen. Silence. He swallowed hard. I need someone to talk to. Fuck. I can't handle this alone. He had plenty of friends. People he could message. People who would probably listen. But when he opened his chat list... His eyes were blurry from crying. He tapped the first person he saw on the chat heads. Rhone didn't even realize who he had clicked. He just started typing. --- Rhone: I'm sorry to interrupt you. It just hurts too much. I don't know how to handle all this emotion. I love her so much. I'm so f*****g stupid. Maybe that woman who cursed me was right. She said whenever I start loving someone, I eventually feel all the pain I caused the people I hurt before. All the people I lied to. All the people I played with. Maybe this is karma. Man... I love her so much. I changed for her. I gave her everything I could. I tried to become the kind of man she deserved. But I still can't escape my past. I don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore. I'm sorry. You don't have to reply. I just needed someone to hear me. --- Rhone stared at the message. He didn't send another word. For the first time in a long time... The mask was gone. No jokes. No flirting. No confident attitude. No “I'm fine.” Just Rhone. The version of him that nobody usually saw. And strangely enough... It was Borg who received it. Not because Rhone planned it. Not because Borg was the only person available. Not because the universe had some obvious reason. It happened because of one click. One random decision. One name on a screen. What if Rhone had clicked someone else? What if Borg wasn't online? What if he had decided not to message anyone at all? Maybe nothing would've changed. Or maybe... Everything would've changed. Funny how life works. Sometimes, you don't realize you're standing at a turning point until you've already taken the step. One click. One decision. And sometimes... That's all it takes to change someone's entire life. End.
