The glittering awards ceremony was at its peak, the stage alight with golden hues and flashes from camera lenses. Applause erupted as Emily Petals stood on stage, holding the coveted Best Actress award. She glowed with confidence and elegance, her gown shimmering under the spotlight. The crowd cheered wildly, but Mika Donalds stood off to the side, her face contorted with fury.
She couldn’t stand it any longer. Watching Emily bask in glory felt like a dagger twisting in her chest. Before anyone could stop her, Mika stormed toward the stage, her heels clacking sharply against the floor.
“Let me through! Let me through!” she shouted, struggling against the security men who tried to block her path. Her voice carried across the room, silencing conversations and turning heads.
“She doesn’t deserve this award!” Mika yelled, her voice thick with rage. “I’m far better than she is!”
Gasps rippled through the crowd. Whispers erupted like wildfire, and all eyes turned toward the scene. Emily, still standing on stage, froze for a moment before regaining her composure. She glanced at Mika, her expression calm but her jaw tightening ever so slightly.
Emily descended the stage gracefully, but her patience was wearing thin. She had endured Mika’s antics long enough. This time, she wasn’t going to let it slide. As she approached, her face betrayed a flicker of anger.
“Enough of this drama, Mika!” Emily yelled, her voice sharper than anyone had ever heard before. The audience fell silent in shock. Emily was known for her poise and calm demeanor, but Mika had pushed her to her limit.
Mika sneered, unfazed by Emily’s outburst. She straightened her posture, her chin tilted defiantly.
“I’m not the old Emily you know,” Emily continued, her voice low but firm. “Don’t hit on my patience. Why can’t you leave me alone in peace, huh?”
As Emily’s words sank in, she realized she was letting her emotions get the better of her. She exhaled deeply, willing herself to calm down. Stepping closer to Mika, she lowered her voice to a whisper.
“Stay away from me,” Emily said, her tone icy.
Without waiting for a response, she turned sharply on her heel and headed for the exit. The room buzzed with murmurs as reporters swarmed toward her like moths to a flame.
“Miss Emily, what’s your relationship with Mika Donalds?” one of the reporters called out, his microphone thrust toward her face.
Emily hesitated, her heart pounding. She hated being dragged into such controversies, but Mika had given her no choice. Just as she opened her mouth to respond, Rachel, her loyal assistant, tugged gently at her arm.
“Please, Emily, don’t do this. Let’s just walk away,” Rachel whispered urgently.
Emily considered Rachel’s plea for a moment, but Mika’s earlier words echoed in her mind. She felt a surge of defiance. Mika had played her hand, and Emily wasn’t going to back down.
“Well,” Emily began, her voice steady but edged with emotion, “Mika Donalds was my best friend—until she betrayed me.”
The crowd gasped audibly, their curiosity piqued. Emily turned her gaze toward Mika, her expression unreadable but her heart burning with anger. She forced a smile, masking the turmoil inside her.
“Miss Emily, do you mind telling us how Mika betrayed you?” another reporter pressed.
Emily’s heart raced as flashes from cameras blinded her. She was on the verge of getting lost in the whirlwind of her thoughts when Rachel stepped forward, shielding her from the reporters.
“That’s all for tonight, everyone,” Rachel said firmly, her voice cutting through the chaos. “Have a peaceful night.”
Rachel’s intervention allowed Emily to slip away, but the reporters weren’t ready to give up so easily. They continued calling after her, their questions ringing in the air. Rachel stayed close, keeping the crowd at bay as they hurried toward the waiting car.
Emily climbed into the back seat, the cool night air brushing her face. She let out a long breath, her body sagging against the plush leather seat.
“You handled everything perfectly,” Rachel said as she settled in beside her. Her tone was calm, but Emily could see the tension lingering in her eyes.
“Thanks,” Emily murmured, though her thoughts were elsewhere. She stared out the window, her fingers absently tracing the edge of her award. She knew Mika wouldn’t let this go. The road ahead would undoubtedly be filled with more challenges, but Emily was determined to face them with dignity.
As the car pulled away, Mika remained at the venue, seething with frustration. Her plan to humiliate Emily had backfired. She stood on the curb, arms crossed tightly over her chest, her face a mask of fury.
Reporters had begun to circle her now, their voices clamoring for answers. Mika straightened her shoulders, forcing herself to look calm and composed. Inside, though, her emotions churned like a storm.
“Miss Mika Donalds, why do you think you’re better than Miss Emily Petals?” one of the reporters asked, his voice cutting through the noise.
Mika stared at him, the question hanging in the air. For the first time that night, her confidence faltered. She opened her mouth to respond, but no words came. The cameras captured every moment of her silence, and the longer it dragged on, the more awkward it became.
Jaden, who had been watching from the sidelines, felt a pang of embarrassment on Mika’s behalf. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. Despite his frustration with her behavior, he knew he had to step in.
Pushing through the crowd, he reached Mika and positioned himself between her and the reporters.
“Okay, everyone, that’s enough for tonight,” Jaden said, raising his hands in a placating gesture. “Miss Mika didn’t mean anything by her earlier comments. She’s just had a lot to drink.”
Mika’s eyes widened in anger. Without thinking, she hit Jaden on the back with her purse.
“I’m not drunk or tipsy, you moron!” she snapped, her voice dripping with fury.
Jaden clenched his jaw, his patience wearing thin. He grabbed her arm firmly but not roughly. “Let’s get out of here, Mika. You’ve caused enough trouble for one night.”
Ignoring her protests, he led her away from the reporters and toward the car. He opened the passenger door and practically ushered her inside before slipping into the driver’s seat.
“Why did you say I was dru—”
“Hey!” Jaden cut her off sharply, his voice firm. “Don’t even finish that sentence.”
He gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white. “I know you want revenge on Emily, but this isn’t the way to do it. If you keep acting like this, you’re only going to embarrass yourself further. Is that clear?”
Mika glared at him, her stubbornness flaring. “Yes,” she muttered under her breath, her tone petulant.
Jaden sighed, his expression softening. He leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, a small gesture of comfort despite his frustration. Without another word, he started the car and drove off into the night.

In the car the cool breeze was a welcome relief after the heat and chaos of the event.
“You did the right thing,” Rachel said softly, her voice laced with pride. “You handled everything perfectly.”
Emily smiled faintly, though her mind was still racing. She had no doubt Mika would retaliate. The rivalry between them was far from over, but Emily resolved to rise above it with grace. She wouldn’t let Mika drag her down to her level.
