  Layla's POV   The words hit me in a way that I hadn't wanted them to as he leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, watching me as though he'd caught me in a lie. I had no reason to feel guilty, but I did.   His wolf's eyes burned behind his, and he tried to hide it under that mocking smile.   I didn't answer him though, instead, I walked to the cabinet, pulled out a spare set of slippers, and dropped them at his feet.   "Here, put these on and don't scratch up my floors."   He looked down at them, then back at me, as though I'd offered him a leash that had belonged to someone else. He slid them on anyway, but I could tell that he was unhappy about it.
