Chapter 2: Trying Something New

CHRISSY’S POV

I had never gone on a date before.

Like it feels so new to me.

I really wonder what it's going to look like.

“Rossy, sorry, please can you help me decide which dress I should put on”. I asked my roommate.

“I'm going on a date with Caleb, the guy that met me after class on Monday”. I said.

“Awwn, that's cute”,she replied.

“I'm so happy for you, you are new here and you had already pulled Caleb, He is so cute.

You know he was my crush back then when I was in my second year”

“Every girl crushed on him, he is a nerd and he is very focused, so focused that he never give

any girl a chance.”,Rossy said.

I was flattered by what Rossy was saying.

She took a look at the dresses I had shown her.

“It is giving church vibes" .She said.

Let's go to your wardrobe.

When we got there, she couldn't find anything pretty in my wardrobe.

“Now let's go to mine.” she said.

She brought out a blue mini gown.

“This gown was too exposing”. I thought to myself.

“No I don't really like it, it's too open and it's not my style”. I replied in a calm tone.

“Okay you can wear whatever you want, it's your choice, do you.” She replied and went back to

her bed space.

I finally picked up the yellow gown my mum had bought for me years back.

“Bye”, I said to my roommate.

“Bye”, she replied.

“Knock, knock”, a knock sounded on the door.

Caleb was already at the door waiting for me.

“Yes, I'm coming”

I opened the door and left with Caleb.

“Hi Chrissy”, he said smiling

“Hi Caleb”, I responded in the same manner.

“You look good tonight”.

“Oh,thank you”,I responded.

“Actually my mum got me the dress”. I replied.

“That's so kind of her”. He said.

“Shall we?” He said

“Of course”. I replied.

We arrived at the place.

We started strolling, though I was a bit nervous because I have never gone on something like

this before.

“Hey, I would love to play this Claw machine”.I said in a shy tone.

“Oh you would love to have a try?” He asked.

“Yes… I would like to have a try.” I replied.

He helped me put the coin into the claw machine after a couple left.

I tried picking a stuffy bear so many times, but I failed and I felt sad about it.

“Can I help you pick one?” Caleb asked.

“Yes please.” I replied.

He decided to help me.

Finally he picked a teddy bear, a purple one and handed it over to me, it was really fluffy.

Yaaaaaaayyyy, I really love it, thank you.

“You are welcome Chrissy.” he laughed.

We continued strolling.

“So you have other siblings?” He asked.

“No, I'm the only child of my parents.” I replied.

“That's fair”, he said in response.

“How about you Caleb?” I asked.

“Well…I'm actually the first son of my parents with two younger sisters”. He answered.

“ I would really love you to meet them someday”, I replied in a happy tone.

We played other games too, we gisted, and we got a can of cold drinks together.

The night was fun at least, for the first time in my life I was outside at night.

We got to the front of my campus.

“I really enjoyed spending the night with you”, He said calmly.

“Same here… it was really amazing”, I replied.

“So this is your hostel right?” he asked

“Yes it is, why?”,I asked.

“Nothing really I just asked”, he said.

“Goodnight, Chrissy”.

“Goodnight, Caleb”.

“We will see each other in school on Monday”. He said.

“Alright good night”,I replied.

We hugged and parted ways.

DAMIEN’S POV

I got to the office.

The investors were already sitting at the round table.

“Good morning sir”. They echoed chorusly.

I raised my hand as a sign of accepting their greetings.

I took my seat.

“I apologize for my lateness, I just came from a conference meeting”, I said, adjusting the folder on my table.

“Thank you all for coming. I know everyone has concerns about the Harbor Height

project. Let's use this opportunity to address them”,I said firmly.

“Concerns? We were talking about the project that is six months behind schedule.

That's more than a concern sir”, the first investor said.

“We invested over millions because we believed in the vision you had, Right now, all

we are seeing delays and rising costs”,the second investor said.

“ I understand your frustrations, The delays were not part of the plan, but an unexpected

permit issues and material shortage slowed the construction”, I said with clarity.

“Excuses won't satisfy the board, we need solutions”,the third investor said with frustration.

“ And I have one already planned out, We have secured a new construction partner who can speed up the remaining work without compromising quality”, I said, looking him in the eye.

“Can you guarantee the project will be completed this time?”, the first investor asked.

“I don't make promises I can't keep, What I can guarantee is that every decision from this point forward will be focused on delivering this project”, I said firmly again.

“ What is the revised timeline?”, the second investor asked.

“ In four months,a weekly progress report will be sent to every investor and you will have full transparency throughout the process”,I said with confidence.

“And if you fail again?”, the second investor asked again.

“Then I will take full responsibility for my actions as the CEO”, I said with reassurance.

“That is a bold statement”, the third investor said.

“Leadership means standing behind your decisions, I won't walk away from this project”, I said.

“ Very well,we will give you those four months, don’t make us regret it”, the second investor said.

“You have my word, Harbor Heights will be completed in no time and it will be worth

every investment you have made”, I said assuring each of them.

Just as we were about to round up, the meeting my assistant walked in.

“Excuse me sir, you have a call”,She said.

“Bring the phone to me”, I replied.

“Okay sir”, she said, walking towards me.

“Good day sir”, someone greeted me from the other line.

“Yes, can I help you?”,I asked.

“I am a nurse from st. Micheal hospital” The lady on the phone replied.

“Your father was rushed to the hospital earlier today and he is seeking for your immediate

attention”, she continued.

“Is that why you called me?”, I asked harshly.

“Yes sir” The lady replied clearly confused by my response.

“Take care of him”, I said.

But sir please, he needs your attention.

“Didn't you hear me clearly?”,I struck my hand on the table.

“I said take care of him”, My voice came out aggressive.

Without letting her say another word, I ended the call.

I handed the phone back to my assistant and dismissed my investors.

I got home later that night and received a call from my father.

“Good evening my son”,he said.

“Good evening father”,I replied.

“I'm not happy about what you did earlier, I needed your attention but you failed to respond”,He continued.

“I was very busy at work” I replied coldly.

“Well…that's fair.” he replied.

“I wanted to remind you about the will I told you about last month”

“You need to get a wife for you to be able to inherit the will”

“Dad”,I snapped in quickly.

“You always said that work comes first and I am taking this business and the company seriously,

I have a lot at hand. So please don't put pressure on me”, I said.

“Hear me out son”, He said weakly.

Before he could say another word.

“Dad, I had a long day and I need to sleep now.” I said.

“Good night”, I said.

I ended the call.
