Chapter 3: The Unexpected Boss

CHRISSY’S POV

Yesterday was so fun, I really enjoyed my night with Caleb.

Before yesterday, I had never gone on a date before.

I look at the time on my clock, it says 6:30 am.

“I have a class by 8:00am” I sighed

I forcefully dragged myself out of my bed and started preparing for class.

I left my hostel by 7:50 am and I quickly went to school.

After class, I was called by my Head Of Department (HOD), Miss Veronica to see her in her office.

“Hello Miss Williams” Miss Veronica greets me.

“Hello Ma” I greeted her back.

“Have you applied to any company yet for your internship?” Miss Veronica asked me.

Shit, I totally forgot about that.

“N..No Ma” I stutter with my head looking down.

“Chrissy, you need to apply for an internship immediately. The deadline is this week Friday”

“What! This week?”

“Yes, this week. That’s why you need to apply now before all the slots are taken” Miss Veronica

said calmly.

“Ok ma”.

Miss Veronica waved her hands signaling me to leave and I left her office.

“I totally forgot to apply for an internship, silly girl”

I hissed as I cursed myself.

I think I should call my dad.

I bring my phone from my bag and dial my dad’s number.

It rings for some seconds then he finally picks up.

“Hello my sweet daughter” My dad greets me from the other end.

I love when he calls me his “sweet daughter”.

I secretly blush.

“Hi dad” I reply in a sad tone.

“What happened? ” My dad asks worriedly.

“Dad I forgot to apply for an internship and the deadline is this week Friday”

“Hmm, I think I know a company you can apply to”.

Yes

I knew my dad would know what to do.

“Which company is that?”

“Blackwoods group and co. is currently looking for interns. I saw it on their flier”

“Ok dad, so how do I apply?”.

“Apply on the website” My dad replied.

“Thank you so much dad”

I hung up the call.

I quickly open their website and fill the form.

“Now all I have to do is wait" .I said to myself.

I’m so tired.

Today was long and I just need to rest.

I walk out of the school building and I see Caleb standing outside.

“Hi Chrissy” He greeted.

“Hi”

“I was looking for you”

“Oh, is everything ok?” I asked

“Yes yes, there’s no trouble at all. I just wanted to see how you were doing”

“I’m doing good, thank you. I’m tired though, so I’m going to my hostel to rest” I replied.

“Ok then, I’ll talk to you later”

“Bye”

I enter my room and immediately jump on my bed.

The next day

I woke up to the sound of my alarm buzzing.

I stood up and quickly checked my mail.

“Yes!” I screamed.

I got the job.

I immediately called my dad and told him the good news.

The letter said I should come by 10 am today.

So I stand up and sprint into the bathroom.

CHRISSY’S POV

I entered the company.

I was greeted by the receptionist who took my jacket.

“Good morning. Are you Miss Williams?” The lady asked.

“Yes I am”

“Ok, please follow me”

I followed the lady.

She took me to a room.

“Please wait here. Mr Blackwood’s assistant will attend to you shortly” she said.

I nodded.

Minutes passed and no one had come to attend to me.

“I’m so thirsty”

I say to myself.

I left the room and went into the lobby.

“A company as big as this should have a water dispenser right?” I asked myself in confusion.

I looked around and I still couldn’t see a water dispenser.

I give up and start to walk away.

Phone beeps

I opened my message app.

It was Caleb.

“Hey, I didn’t see you in school today”

Oh s**t, I forgot to tell Caleb about my internship.

I was about to reply when I bumped into someone.

Or rather, someone bumped into me.

My documents scattered on the marble tiled floor.

I quickly picked up my documents and looked up.

The man that bumped into me looked so unapologetic and rude.

“Sorry sir” I decided to apologize first.

I looked into his piercing black eyes

I couldn’t move.

Like he had cast a spell on me to remain still.

The man had pitch black hair and he was tall.

“I think his height is around 6 '1”. I thought to myself.

“What are you looking at?” The man asked in his deep cold voice.

I regained my senses immediately.

“Nothing sir, sorry for bumping into you” I apologized again.

He didn’t say anything.

He scanned me from head to toe.

He looked at me with disgust and annoyance, hissed and walked away.

“So rude,” I whispered to myself.

I watched him as he left.

I watched his movement.

He wore a black shirt that hugged him tightly around his chest with black pants.

As he walked, I could see his back muscles contract through this shirt.

“He’s hot,” I said to myself.

I can’t even deny the fact that he’s hot.

He finally disappeared from my sight and I turned and walked away.

I went back to the room I was in earlier to see a lady there.

“Please are you Mr Blackwood’s assistant?” I asked innocently.

“Yes I am. I’ve been waiting for you Miss Williams”

“Sorry ma, I was thirsty and went to get water to drink”

“No problem. Please follow me”

The lady escorted me into an office.

I was shocked by who I saw there.

The rude man was sitting in the office.

He looked so relaxed with his head resting on his hand.

I was not expecting to see him here.

“Mr Blackwood, this is the new intern, Miss Chrissy Williams. She came in today,” the assistant said.

Mr Blackwood?

I silently screamed.

The rude man was the CEO of the company.

And I already made a bad impression.

He didn’t even spare me a glance.

Like we had not just met some minutes ago.

“She’ll be your secretary,” the assistant continued.

“Hello sir. My name is Chrissy Williams” I introduced myself.

He didn’t answer.

He still didn’t look at me.

Like I was talking to a ghost.

“Come with me now. We are going for a business meeting”. he said coldly.

What? Now?

“But I just came in today sir”. I tried to reason with him.

“Meet me outside in 5 minutes”

“This man is so rude” I thought.

It felt like I was talking to myself.

“Why are you still standing here?”

I didn’t reply and sprinted out of the office.
