Luca's father didn't raise his voice when he discovered the sports medicine application. Somehow, that made sitting in the den worse. He remained near the doorway with one hand resting against the frame, looking first at the university brochure and then at Luca as if he were waiting for someone to admit this was a joke. Luca closed the laptop but didn't hide it. I placed the brochure on the coffee table and wished I could disappear without making it obvious that I was disappearing. The conversation that needed to happen had nothing to do with me, or at least it shouldn't have.
