More than Secrets

DANI'S P. O. V.

At Lee's place, I'm currently seated on her kitchen counter, legs swinging off the edge, as I lick the mixing bowl and spatula Lee's just finished using to make whatever it is that's baking in the oven now.

It's filling the whole house with its heavenly scent.

It tastes pretty good raw so that must mean it's gonna be a knockout when it's done too.

Lee's dad, Mr. Archer comes into the kitchen and pours himself a glass of wine. He bends down and has a peep into the oven.

"What kind of muffins have you got baking in there, Riles?" he asks Lee.

"Cappuccino and chocolate-chip," she replies, her eyes still focused on her laptop screen.

Lee's typing out a notice for cheerleading tryouts on Friday and Brie's doing the same on her laptop, but for basketball tryouts instead (she's the captain of the school's female basketball team, The Green Leapers).

Our basketball team gets taunted by every other team they face, who call them "The Green Lepers" instead and throw tissues on the court at half time. It's quite embarrassing, but at least The Green Leapers are still a kick ass team and they manage to beat every other school they go up against despite being ridiculed.

And the cheerleaders? Well, all they have to do to be the best, is to be charismatic, and agile, and, it would help in your case, to be easy on the eyes too.

I know? It's barbaric, right? I have to hear what Lee goes through on a daily basis with what she calls: "the wee-immature things", and I call "the empty heads", and Brie calls "the wanna-be Barbies". Aside from her and, maybe El, the cheerleading team lack that many braincells to go around.

"Mmm... Lee, this is so yummy!" I say, licking my sticky fingers. "Okay, I'm done."

I hop off the counter and do a happy dance to the sink. I place the dirty dishes inside, soap, wash and rinse them, before stacking them on the drying rack.

"Okay, well I'll just be in my study if you need me," I hear Mr. Archer call to Lee.

When I turn around, Lee looks up at me from behind her laptop and frowns. "You know we have Omegas for tha-" she doesn't get to finish because Brie's elbow jabs her in her side and she hunches over in pain, cursing through gritted teeth. Something along the lines of "I swear to the Moon Goddess, I'll get you back, Brie!"

"What Lee meant is that the lady who cleans here everyday has "a mega" crush on her dad," Brie says, looking right into Lee's eyes as if telling her not to challenge her authority.

Lee looks back in equal authority and I try clearing my throat a little bit in an effort to ease the thick tension that's building up between them, but what escapes from my lips instead, is a deep growl like what happened back at the restaurant, except this time it's louder and even more frightening - even to my own ears.

Brie and Lee both gaze at me in awe and bow their heads as if in submission.

I don't know what it is, but I feel this immense power flowing within me and radiating off of me.

They exchange knowing looks with one another. Turns out, the people you trust most in this world, can also betray you the most. Clearly these two are keeping something from me.

"What's happening to me, guys?"

They both shake their heads sadly.

Fine. If that's how they're gonna be, I don't need their friendship.

I walk past them and upstairs to Lee's room. I need to cry for a good 3 hours straight because this feels like the closest thing to a breakup I've ever known.

BRIE'S P. O. V.

"You know, you really need to be more careful, Lee," I say to her, "We've been given specific orders not to say anything to Dani yet. The Alpha wants to tell her himself."

Lee huffs and crosses her arms over her chest, not happy about lying to Dani, who's stormed off upstairs.

I'm not happy about it either, but honestly, there's nothing we can do or say to her right now that will help the situation in any way. She'll know about our life soon enough, then we won't have to keep secrets from her ever again.

"She's not as fragile as you and Tyler make her out to be, you know?" Lee points out. "You're both underestimating her strength... I mean, did you see Brian's nose? She broke it, and he's got Beta blood in him!"

I have to c***k up at that. Brian deserved his broken nose and he would have gotten so much more if I had been there too.

Lee giggles, but looks at me again with a serious expression. "Dani growled at us... And did you feel her aura? I've only ever felt that kind of aura being emitted from an Alpha."

Both our eyes bulge with this sudden realization.

I shake my head and frown at her. She's right though.

It doesn't make sense that Dani was able to get us to submit to her earlier. And her growl was so powerful it shook the pendent lights that hang above the kitchen island. Then, she took on a werewolf this morning, actually broke his nose and walked away with only a bruised hand? Any other average human would have broken their hand on a werewolf's nose.

It just doesn't add up. If Dani isn't an average human, then what is she?

The only logical explanation is that she's a werewolf too.

DANI'S P. O. V.

I don't know how many hours it's been since I came to cry in Lee's room, but when I do eventually open my eyes, the sky is lightening with hues of pink and orange. It's magnificent.

I sit up in my sleeping bag on the blow-up mattress Lee gave me to sleep on, and look around.

Lee's snoring softly in her princess canopy bed and Brie's laying, sprawled out on the sleeper couch, her feet dangling off the end.

It would have been comical to see if I wasn't still so mad at them. I huff and go out onto Lee's little balcony (everything about her room screams princess) and gaze at the wondrous green pine trees that stretches out as far to the east as your eyes can see. No matter how many times I visit Lee, this view never ceases to amaze me.

And then I see something else there, lurking at the edge of the forest, a flash of black fur and sparkling green eyes... the wolf from my dreams.

I'm hit with a tingling sensation that I've only ever felt when one other person has been nearby.
