...Flashback: two days earlier...
BRIAN'S P. O. V.
I'm standing in the middle of what appears to be a throne room in the middle of Half-Moon packhouse.
This place is creepy as hell with all of its old paintings and evil-looking statues, and the blood red color of the drapes over the barred windows isn't helping either... This room looks like something out of a horror movie.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm starting to think that this plan of mine may not have been such a good idea after all, but I don't let it show. There's no turning back now, so I stand and wait for Alpha Henry to come in.
When he does come in, I get the chills almost immediately, as if I'm staring into the eyes of the devil himself.
A woman, who has a striking resemblance to Dani, trails behind him. She looks like she would rather be anywhere but here.
"Mister Collins, you've requested a moment of my time," the Alpha sneers as he takes a seat on the "throne" and the woman stands at his right. "I suggest you tell me exactly what it is. I don't have time to waste, I'm the Alpha after all... I have a pack to run."
I bow my head as a sign of respect. "Yes, Alpha Henry. I came here because I believe I may be of good use to you," I say. My eyes always seem to drift back to this mysterious Dani-lookalike.
The Alpha growls at me and slams his hand down on the armrest of his seat and, If looks could kill, I'd be a dead man. "Why do you keep staring at my mate, you mutt!" he demands, using his Alpha tone.
The lookalike has a disapproving look on her face. I think I hear her mutter "I'm not your mate" and roll her eyes at him.
"I apologize, Alpha, it's just that your mate bears a striking resemblance to a she-wolf I know," I reply, leaving out the part where this "she-wolf" was strong enough to break my nose, even before she'd gained her wolf.
Dani is actually the real reason I'm here. I've always wanted her, but all these years I was commanded by Tyler not to ask her out or show any interest in her. I was furious. She wasn't even his mate yet and already he'd staked a claim on her.
I wanted nothing more than to take her as my own... too bad she didn't want to come to me willingly, it would have made things so much easier. Now I was gonna have to use force. That b***h was gonna be mine, whether she wanted to or not.
Henry rubs his beard and smirks at me. "I doubt that very much, pup. You see, these assets are a rare commodity these days," he says with an evil grin while pointing his thumb at the woman at his side. "All except I have a Reynolds wolf alive today," he says as if he's bragging about an expensive car and not a person.
I'm quite confused as to what he means by this. I don't know what a Reynolds wolf is or why it's so special, but It's like time slows down as my brain works on overdrive, piecing together the puzzle...
I've been hearing through other pack members that Dani's mother gave birth to her, then left her in the care of the Carstens' (a human family) and that's why we all assumed she was a human before her 18th birthday, yesterday.
"Actually, I may have to correct you on that, Alpha," I say, smirking like I'm the one with all the power. I have a secret that he's yet to figure out involving his "mate" s***h older-Dani doppelganger over there.
His eyes go wide at my sudden cockiness. Any second now and he may very well rip my throat out, so I continue without further delay. "You see, you are mistaken by thinking that you're the only one with a Reynolds wolf."
His "mate's" eyes go wide at this and I hear her sharp intake of breath at what I've just said.
"No!" she yells and lunges for me.
I dodge her at the same time the Alpha grabs a hold of her hair and yanks her back viciously. The force of it is enough to make me cringe at thoughts of her head popping clean off her neck... ew... but thank the Goddess she's fine.
I let out a sigh of relief.
The Alpha smiles wickedly at me. "Mister Collins, you've piqued my interests. Shall we discuss this further in my office?"
He's saying it as a request more out of courtesy than anything else. He and I both know that I cannot refuse.
I nod and follow him up to his office, his "mate" whimpering in his grasp, but more in fear of being caught out than of the actual pain from his strong grip.
We plan to gather an army of rogues then he'll distract Red Moon Pack by attacking them, while my team of traitors will capture Dani and bring her to him.
The reward will be a high ranking position in his pack and I can have Dani to my disposal.
Now those are good terms to agree with.
So the attack will take place in two days time and then I'll have Dani all to myself.
...End of flashback...
DANI'S P. O. V.
I'm laying as still as I can in the burrow when I hear footsteps on the pathway above. They're human footprints, not a wolf's.
My wolf hearing hones in on the conversation.
"She's here somewhere. Her and the Alpha always run this way," one voice says. They stop and I hear them sniffing.
"She's close, I'm getting that honey and hazelnut around here," the second voice says... Is that Brian?!
Did Tyler send them to help safeguard me?
"We have to move fast, Brian. Those rogues are just a distraction, remember?" the first voice says, proving my suspicions.
They're definitely not here to help me.
"Of course I remember, dumbass! I'm the one who came up with this plan in the first place!" Brian yells back.
That two-timing son of a b***h betrayed his own pack! And now he was looking for me? Why?
Dani, how are you gonna get out of this? I think to myself.
Brian sniffs again and chuckles darkly. "She's down there, off the embankment. See where the ground has been disturbed?"
There's a silence. Oh God. My breath hitches in my throat.
Juno, it's now or never girl! I yell at her, we can't let them take us. Not without a fight!
Juno roars and the power radiating through us is just so incredible. Red... I'm seeing everything through a red filter now.
My bones start to c***k and twist and pop, my clothes shred, and my body is on fire. It hurts so badly, all I wanna do is claw my own eyeballs out in agony, but I push through the pain.
I don't know how long my first shift takes, but when I do finally open my eyes, it's like I'm seeing everything through Juno's perspective... like I've got a virtual reality headset on. It's the most fascinating thing I've ever experienced.
Juno gets into a protective stance and growls a warning at the traitor, Brian, and the other boy as they slowly approach her.
They both angle out and begin to circle her, trying to close her off, but she dodges them as soon as the boy lunges forward with a syringe aimed at her.
She uses this force to bump into Brian, with quite a bit of power, and send him flying backwards into a tree.
I giggle at the irony of Juno putting Brian in the same position he had me in on the first day of school.
She turns and uses her claws to s***h "syringe boy" across his chest. He cries out and hunches over in pain.
Go Juno! I cheer.
She turns to do the same to Brian, but he's nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, we feel a small pinch in our neck, and then everything fades into black...
