Chapter Three: Growing strong

1179 Words
Two things wouldn’t leave my mind—Ares’s unexpected kindness and the glowing woman’s words. The moment Ares’s eyes lit up, a slow, beautiful smile spread across his face. He looked at me in a way that sent chills down my body. Then, without a word, he opened the heavy door and gestured for me to step out of the dungeon. The air outside felt less suffocating, but the weight of what had happened still pressed on my chest. I could see power coming from his eyes. So this is what it means to be a powerful beta. “Go take a shower and rest,” he said, his voice calm. “I talked Killian into cutting your punishment down to eighteen hours.” Eighteen hours. That was how long I had been locked away. It felt like only minutes had passed, like time had slipped through my fingers. But then, the woman’s voice echoed in my mind again, her words strong and certain. Leave this place. Something about what she said felt real. I didn’t know where I would go or how I would survive, but deep down, I knew she was right. I dragged myself to the Bathroom in my quarters , exhaustion weighing me down. The warm water washed away the filth, and before I knew it, my body gave in to sleep. The next morning, I was summoned for my usual duties. As soon as I stepped into the main hall, a strange tension filled the air. The scent of strength and authority was thick, wrapping around me like an invisible force. My heart pounded. He was here. Alpha Killian. A pull gripped me, strong and unshakable. I had never felt anything like it, and it came with a very sweet compelling smell, This was stronger than l could resist. I knew that the mating season was coming soon, but this is very early. And there was no announcement on that. I wasn't really permitted to be free during mating seasons, so l don't know if that's why l never had this experience, but if this is it,it's good but not to who am thinking it is. I just know this is the mate bond, and the direction l could feel this pull, made it very terrifying. His eyes locked onto me from across the room. My breath caught. Even without looking, I felt his stare—heavy, sharp, like an unspoken command. I quickly dropped my gaze, my body stiff with fear. Looking an Alpha in the eye could get me punished. Killian was ruthless. And yet, his stare didn’t waver. It burned into me, strong and intense. I could feel his energy shifting, dark and dangerous. Something about me had caught his attention. And whatever it was, it filled him with rage. "Don't pretend like you don't feel it." Killian’s voice was low, almost dangerous, as he stepped closer. My body stiffened, but I couldn’t move. "You can never be the one.You can never be my mate" His breath brushed against my ear, his voice as cold as ice, yet his presence burned into my skin. I wanted to reject whatever this feeling was—to bury it deep and pretend it never existed. It would be easier that way. It was better to feel nothing for someone like him. Before I could gather my thoughts, the tension in the room shattered. "Sir!" The guards rushed in, their scent thick with urgency. The air crackled with the weight of bad news. "We've been invaded by the Nightfang Pack." The words spoken increased the tension in the room. Nightfang. A pack known for their ruthless and unyielding thirst for blood. This was no random attack. "It was a planned ambush," the guard continued, his voice strained. "The people are crying at the end of Lunar Hollow Street. Some homes are burned, and we already have seven casualties." Killian’s expression darkened. A dangerous storm built in his eyes, and for a brief second, I saw something terrifying beneath his rage—something untamed. His power pulsed through the room, suffocating and heavy. He turned to me, his voice sharp as a blade. "Make sure everything is in order before our return." And then, just like that, he was gone. --- Killian The moment she entered the hall, the pull gripped me. It was undeniable, raw, and unshakable. I knew what it meant. I knew what the mate bond felt like. But it couldn't be her. The Moon Oracle had warned me. She had spoken of a prophecy—one she could barely interpret, but one thing was clear. Serena was cursed. A danger to my pack. She may be the end of everything. I should kill her. Right here. Right now. My instincts screamed for it, but something held me back. Something infuriatingly strong. My guards burst in, breaking the storm in my mind. The Nightfang Pack had come for a fight and a fight they will get. I pushed everything aside. Right now, nothing mattered but battle. --- The moment we reached Lunar Hollow Street, the chaos was already unfolding. Smoke curled into the night air, thick and suffocating. The scent of blood mixed with burning wood, creating a sickening blend that made my wolf snarl in rage. The cries of my people echoed around me, but I didn’t stop to listen. My focus was on the enemy. And there they stood—dozens of them, their dark fur bristling under the day light, their eyes gleaming with the thrill of war. Their Alpha, a massive beast with scars marking his past victories, let out a bone-rattling growl. "Kill them all," he commanded. Aren was at my side, his presence solid as a rock. But something was different. His eyes glowed—a fierce, burning red. Power surged from him in waves, his aura crackling with an energy I had never seen before. He lunged first, his claws slashing through flesh like it was nothing. The speed, the force—he was nearly unstoppable. He moved like death itself, cutting through the Nightfang warriors with good pace. I leaped into the fray, claws extending, fangs bared. A massive black wolf lunged at me, but I twisted mid-air, my claws tearing into his throat before he could land a hit. Blood splattered across my face, warm and familiar. Ares was a blur of destruction beside me. A warrior charged at him, but with a single swipe of his claws, the wolf was sent flying backward, crashing into a burning house. The flames roared as they swallowed him whole. Another wolf tried to strike from behind, but Ares didn’t even turn. He simply raised a hand, and with an unseen force, the wolf was lifted off the ground—his body twisting mid-air before being slammed into the earth with bone-crushing force. I had fought beside Ares for years. I knew his strength. But tonight, he was something else. Something more. The red glow in his eyes burned brighter, and I wondered… Did Ares just get new powers?
