Chapter Five: The weaker beings

1258 Words
Something was wrong. A hollow feeling spread through my chest. I didn’t understand it, but I knew it wasn’t good. It felt like I had lost something—someone—important to me. The thought unsettled me more than I cared to admit. "Raid the party," I commanded, my voice sharp with urgency. "Find her." --- Serena’s POV After my walk with Ares, I returned to my room, my thoughts a tangled mess. A part of me wanted to stay, drawn to him in a way I didn’t fully understand. I liked him_ atleast a little. He was kinder to me than the so called Alpha. But what if this was all an illusion? A mask to hide his true intentions? Many questions flooded my mind And then there was the glowing woman’s warning. You will grow stronger if you leave. The words echoed in my mind, feeding the fire inside me. I wanted that strength. I needed it. Even if it meant disappointing Ares, I had to go—for the greater good. If I told him, he would try to stop me. I took a deep breath, steeling myself. Then—Baap! The door burst open. I had forget to lock it My heart jumped, shattering my thoughts. Ares stood in the doorway. His presence filled the space, both familiar and unsettling. I was happy to see him. But a little bit disturbed. I quickly stood, lowering my gaze in respect. Ares rarely came to my room.He smiled at me, but there was something different in his eyes. Not warmth, not affection—something deeper, something… possessive. I felt something unexplainable . He stepped closer, closing the distance between us. My breath caught as he reached for me, pulling me flush against him. His touch was firm, commanding. His lips brushed against my neck, slow and deliberate, trailing down toward my collarbone. My body tensed at first, then melted into his warmth. A strange sensation pulsed through me—desire, fear, confusion, all mixed together. I shouldn’t want this. But I did. Then I saw it. A ring. Silver and strange, gleaming against his skin. I hadn’t noticed it before. His kisses deepened, his touch possessive, igniting something inside me I wasn’t ready to name. I wanted to surrender, to let myself fall into him. But just as I began to, something shifted. The thoughts of Killian and the mate-bond we seemed to share followed by a sudden wave of weakness that washed over me, followed by a sharp dizziness. I forced myself to focus. My vision blurred for a second, and then I saw his eyes again, glowing red, the energy within them swirling down his arm, flowing into his something on his finger. Then, as if nothing had happened, he pulled away. "I’ll see you tomorrow," he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to my lips before stepping back. And just like that, he was gone. I stood there, dazed, my mind racing. I wanted to tell him I was leaving, but something stopped me. I just couldn't But the urgency to leave burned inside me, stronger than ever. "I will come back for you, Ares," I whispered, as if saying it would ease the guilt. A part of me wanted to stay because of him. It didn’t make sense, but the feeling was there, lingering, refusing to fade. Yet, as much as I tried to push it away, Killian’s presence clawed at my mind. That mate-bond pull—strong, undeniable—tangled itself with whatever was growing for Ares. It was even far stronger. I wanted to fight it. Killian was ruthless, cruel. He had no heart. But deep down, I knew the truth. I couldn’t. And that was the biggest reason I needed to leave. As l woke up the next morning, l had arranged my things waiting for the perfect time. The council meeting. When l observed the quiteness in the hall way l took my things and walked past the corridors, past the hallway until l came out through the kitchen into the woods. Then as l wanted to run l observed I was very weak. I saw two guards just hanging around, so I quickly hid behind a big rock with my bag against my back. One of the guards walked right past me, and as soon as he was gone, I ran forward. I kept doing this, hiding and running, until I reached a fence that was closed shut. There was nowhere else to go. Just when I started to feel really stuck, I saw a bright light in the distance. It wasn't sunny because the clouds looked like it was going to rain, so this light was different. I walked towards it, and as I got closer, the light started to move. It floated along, and I kept following it, wondering where it was going. Soon, I didn't recognize where I was anymore. The light dimmed a bit , and I went closer. It looked familiar, like the light I'd seen in the dungeon cell room. "Miss...?" I tried to call out, but the light just disappeared. Suddenly, everything was dark. It was getting late. I was so focused on following that light that I hadn't noticed how much time had passed or where it had led me. I found myself on a deserted street, more like a dirty back alley with trash cans, and everything was wet. It looked like it had just rained. Then, I heard noises and smelled blood. But this wasn't the usual werewolf blood smell. It was different, like the blood of some other kind of creature. I wasn't sure because I'd never actually seen other beings, though I'd heard stories about humans and other strange creatures. I followed the smell of blood and the sounds in the distance and saw a group of people. But I couldn't feel any energy coming from them, the way I could with werewolves. My gut feeling told me these weren't normal werewolves. It seemed like these were humans, and this looked like the human world I'd heard about. They were always described as being weaker. I watched from a distance as they seemed to be hitting another human. He was bleeding badly. A strong anger, stronger than anything I'd felt before, started to bubble up inside me. All at once, I found myself standing right in the middle of them. I was shocked because I'd never moved that fast before, not even close. The humans turned to look at me. "Where the hell did you come from?" one of them asked, sounding mean. "What did he do, and why do you want to hurt him?" I replied, not even answering his question. I was surprised at how brave I was being. "It's none of your business," one of them snapped back. "Unless you want to be next!" He laughed, and the others laughed with him, making me feel bolder. "Leave him alone," I said firmly. "And what are you going to do if we don't? What can you even do about it?" one of the five guys asked, walking towards me. He looked tough. I looked at the person on the ground. I felt so sorry for him; he was almost dying, and they were still kicking him. "Stop doing—" Slap! Someone hit me hard across the face. My instincts warned me, but I was so focused on the hurt man that I didn't know when the slap was coming. I got really, really angry.
