"Well, look who's the newest surgeon in town," Celeste smiled as she opened the door.
"Attending surgeon, Mother," I clarified as she leaned in and kissed me on the cheek.
"Doesn't matter. Come on in," she said casually, her eyes flicking toward Rio, who I had come with, and then just as quickly away.
The tension between them was palpable, and they were both purposely ignoring each other.
The party, of course, was already in full swing.
"I'll get us something to drink," Rio said. He gave me a quick kiss and walked away.
Celeste's eyes followed him with an amused smile. "Someone's finally catching up on my advice," she whispered. "Looks like you've got him on a hook."
