Rio broke it first, his voice quiet but cutting. "You want me to admit I was wrong? That I should've told you years ago? Fine. Maybe I should have. But I didn't. And I won't apologize for protecting myself."

His chest heaved, and the vein in his temple pulsed like it might burst.
