Chapter 1: I wish the Truck stood still

1887 Words
My phone alarm blasted the hell out of my ears, forcing me to stand up even though it’s just seven to prepare my stuff for work. My shift starts at ten am and I have to be there around nine to log in my time card and receive the paper works. I immediately grabbed an instant cup noodles from my stock and started frying some eggs and a few slices of bacon. Boiling water for my coffee and noodles, I ironed my clothes and brushed my hair. I had to do multi-tasking to make sure that I won’t miss the first jeep that brings me to the precinct. Eating my way through breakfast and washing my face, I wore my clothes and checked my bags if I missed anything except for the pictures that I have and the book. Like a bolt of lightning, I turned off the electricity, stove gas, and locked my doors before running towards the street using my rubber shoes (take note, I’m wearing jogging pants with my top police uniform). After the gruesome morning rush, I finally arrived at my destination while trying to catch my breath like an athlete that just finished a triathlon. Phew, this is why I wanted to buy a bike in the first place but my budget went over to the book premiers and merchandise. Sliding my time card amidst being a wilted vegetable, I sat down on my desk and cooled myself down while staring at the ceiling. “I hate this…” I said to myself as my body was charging itself under the coolness of the air conditioner that’s in front of me. I prepared a cup of coffee before opening my laptop and began reading some of the forums from the official game.   I posted a few inquiries prior to the ending of the book and I was surprised to see a lot of comments and theories based on the authors approach. Apparently, Calypso herself is tight lipped about her intentions and I think it would remain like that throughout the duration of her career. One of the theories that was raised is that the Villainess may be the real heroine all along but was overshadowed by La’laine. Though there are no concrete ideas to support it, the lack of lore revolving around her is suspicious enough to doubt Ekaterina’s true origins apart from the info coming from the perspective of the other characters. None of the key information was in the novel, only the game contains most of the details and it’s still not enough to produce a well written conclusion. However, the arguments that were laid out caused a lot of uproar in the fandom and these bitches are asking for my input since I’m at the top spot of the leader boards.   Out of nowhere, one of my co-workers approached me. “Heeey girl! I would like to have some advice…” A vein popped at the side of my head as I glared at her for ruining my concentration. “If it’s about money then you asked the wrong person,” I replied to her while opening multiple tabs of forum answers on my laptop. She shaked her head and answered, “No, no, no. I wanna ask you about some dating advice!” Well… that topic is much worse than I anticipated. It also hurts because I’ve never dated not even once and she’s the first punk to ask me something disrespectful so early in the morning. But I have to keep it down while harboring feelings of envy. Gosh I want to cry on the spot but my anger is overtaking everything… “L-let’s hear it…”   My co-worker began to fidget like salted slime. She looked at me eye to eye with so much determination and glitters over her being. “I’m actually dating someone older than me and I’m curious w-with what I should do since it’s a first…” “Which one is first? You dating an old guy or you dating?” “M-me dating an older guy!” “I don’t see any problem with that… Are you feeling uncomfortable?” “No, not really… It’s just that I don’t think I’m mature enough to be beside him…” “Do you have feelings for the dude though?” “Of course I do! I’ve already met his daughter and…” I had to butt in when I heard the last sentence. “He has a daughter? What’s the age gap between you two?!” “At least six years. His daughter is already two years old.” It’s not much of a gap. I thought we were talking about ten years and above. That would’ve been a different story too if the kid is already in her teens. I gave her the most sound and logical advice that I could give. “Just do what you can and make sure that you get the approval of the kid first. I’m sure that things would go well if you get the kid head over heels for you. Also, learn how to cook! I heard men like it when girls cook well.” Her eyes began to sparkle as if she reached some sort of enlightenment from the words of a monk… She held both of my hands and thanked me before I shooed her away from my sight. I chewed my hankie in jealousy as tears began to fall. This is why I hate talking to girls with boyfriends, I hate it, hate it! So instead of loathing, I spent the rest of my time doing something a little bit productive. The captain threw a few case folders for me to sort out. All of it are complaints from nearby barangays in the neighborhood, and it’s really disturbing how a simple bowl of Lugaw could turn a food store into a battle ground. Out of nowhere, one of the roaming cops on duty entered the precinct and shouted, “we need back up! Homies and I are chasing a group of suspects from the gambling den, we need as many officers deployed as possible!” The captain stood up from his chair, and instructed us to follow his lead. Only two or four police men were left to supervise the station. We got out and started roaming around the premises using the radio as a guide to track the culprit’s whereabouts. Our group was divided into three and our intercept points were designated by the captain himself. Just what the doctor ordered, the bastards are being lured towards our direction. There are five men getting chased and we managed to subdue three from the group before the remaining two separated to different directions. I then followed one of the culprits on a narrow street who seems awfully familiar. Debris and various objects were being thrown at me coming from the suspect. He seems to throw anything he grabs as he staggers from time to time. Our chase brought us to an empty alley next to the main highway. The man is already tired and started to get his breath back by leaning on a wall. I pulled the hood down and realized it was my idiotic brother Isaac. “You piece of s**t… I told you to look for work, what in the world are you doing Isaac?!” I sat down on the floor, trying to rest for a bit. I also need to cool my head down since we are at it again just like always and it’s pissing me off. His face isn’t any better than yesterday. As a matter of fact, he has bruises on his face and his neck contains burn marks, probably from cigarettes. What in the world is my brother doing? “You said you don’t want to see me no more…” I held both of his shoulders and looked at him straight in the eyes, “I don’t want to see you in that f*****g state! I’m still your older sister Isaac, and I don’t want you into that hell hole ever again! You keep on running and running even though I’ve given you plenty of opportunities to change… Why won’t you realize that I’m trying to help you?!” Isaac started crying as he burrowed his wounded head on my shoulders. Even though he smells insidious, the feeling of reconciliation and trust is far superior to anything else right now. *Claaaank* the sound of a broken glass rang on my ears as I started to lose consciousness. Before I knew it, my body fell to the ground as one of my brother’s associates picked him up, escaping along with my crying brother. I could see it… I could see remorse and regret in his eyes… “I-I f*****g hate this…” I said to myself as I stood up, while my head is dripping with blood. I grabbed a handkerchief inside the pocket of my pants and wrapped it around the back of my head, trying to cover the bleeding so that I could walk properly without any of the icky sensation. “Come back here Isaac!” I shouted while trying to walk towards the path they took. My legs are a bit wobbly as I radioed my status and called for help. However, it didn’t stop me from chasing my brother who just crossed a street. As I was finally able to get a good view of Isaac, a truck came from the left side, hitting me a few meters off the ground. I didn’t realize that I was on the road as my body became light with a sharp sensation of pain emanated from my body. Before I knew it, Isaac rushed towards my location amidst the cluster of people that are trying to help me. “No, no, no… Mary please you need to stay up… I’ll change please, I’ll change!” I was looking at the crying face of my brother as he carried me in his arms while I’m being applied some first aid. “Y-you’re a bad kid… Make sure you eat well from now on okay?” I asked as tears fell from my eyes. “I-I feel sleepy…” I closed my eyes, hearing the cries of my brother and the sound of an ambulance in the background. It doesn’t matter to me if I lived an empty life… Seeing my brother realize his worth with my own eyes is enough of a prize for me… I always love you my dear brother, please live with you head held high… (End of CHapter)
