CHAPTER SIX: Lines that begins to divide

736 Words
That night the estate felt quieter than usual. Not peaceful Not calm Just restrained As if every sound had learned to stay inside itself. Amara sat near the edge of her bed with a book open in her hands, but she was not reading it Her eyes kept drifting towards the window. The sky outside was dark and still But her thoughts were not Footsteps passed her door once. Then again later Different pacing Different weights She noticed that now Before, she used to ignore it. Now she listened A soft knock came This time she did not hesitate. Come in, she said. The door opened Ethan Blake stood there He did not enter fully at first. As if unsure whether he was allowed to be in the space or not. Amara closed her book slowly. You are not supposed to be here, she said quietly. Ethan nodded slightly. I know A pause followed. Neither of them moved. Then he stepped inside and closed the door behind him. Chloe is getting worse, he said finally Amara studied him carefully. Worse how Ethan looked away for a moment. Like she is trying to turn everything into something it is not Amara did not respond immediately. Instead, she asked softly. And what do you think it is? Ethan hesitated That question seemed heavier than the conversation itself. I do not know whether he admitted But it does not feel like she is wrong. It also does not feel like she is right. Amara nodded slightly. That honesty surprised her more than she expected. Ethan continued And the way Victoria looks at things It feels like she already knows the ending. Amara felt a small shift in her chest at that Victoria always knew how to stand in a room like she owned the outcome of every conversation before it happened. Do you trust her? Amara asked. Ethan did not answer immediately. That silence said more than words. Before he could respond, another voice interrupted from outside the door. Chloe Morgan The handle turned immediately, and the door opened without waiting. She stood there for a moment taking in the scene. Then smiled faintly So this is what it is now. Ethan turned sharply It is not what you think Chloe stepped inside anyway. It is always what I think she said calmly. Her eyes moved from Ethan to Amara. They stayed on Amara longer than necessary. Victoria is looking forward to you both, Chloe added. Ethan frowned Why Chloe shrugged slightly. She did not say But she looked serious. And that was enough to make everything feel heavier. They walked together through the corridor Three people in one line that did not feel balanced Amara in the middle without choosing to be there When they reached the main hall, Victoria was already waiting. She did not ask where they had been. She did not question the delay. She simply looked at them. All three of them As if measuring something invisible Then she spoke From today onward, she said, calmly Your schedules will change Chloe straightened slightly. Ethan looked alert Amara remained still Victoria continued There will be no unnecessary closeness without supervision. The words did not sound emotional. But they landed like instructions that could not be argued with. Chloe’s expression tightened immediately. Ethan frowned Amara looked between them, slowly beginning to understand This was not about schedules. It was about separation Victoria turned slightly Chloe, you will focus on your academic placement. Ethan you will focus on discipline training. She paused And Amara All attention shifted slightly toward her. You will remain under private study guidance. No shared sessions No overlapping routines Silence followed Chloe was the first to react. That is ridiculous, she said quickly. Ethan looked confused but said nothing yet. Amara felt something cold settle inside her. Victoria did not raise her voice. It is final, she said simply. And just like that The house changed again Not through chaos But through control Later that night Amara stood alone by the window in her room again. But this time she was not just thinking. She was remembering every small shift. Every look Every silence And she realized something that made her breath slow slightly. The separation was not random. It was planned And whatever Victoria Hale was building inside this house It required them apart Before it could ever break them apart completely
