Something was wrong with Aubrey. I noticed it the moment we entered the pack house—a subtle tension in her shoulders, a slight change in her scent that spoke of distress. When I leaned close to murmur, "Everything okay?" she gave me a quick shake of her head and a forced smile that didn't reach her eyes.
"I'm fine," she whispered back, but the slight tremor in her voice said otherwise. I squeezed her hand gently, trying to convey comfort through the simple gesture.
