Chapter 54

665 Words

The Trap Within the Frame Rain dripped steadily from the eaves of Anna’s apartment. The air was thick with the scent of old memories, soaked paper, and something she couldn’t name—something close to dread. Her phone buzzed. No Caller ID. Again. She hesitated… then answered. A whisper crackled through the speaker. One word. ₩“Check your mailbox.” Click. She ran downstairs, barefoot and breathless. The cold tile of the hallway burned against her skin. She yanked open the mailbox and saw a plain white envelope—no stamp, no markings. Her heart knocked hard against her ribs. Inside was a photo. Noah. In bed. Sleeping. Not with her. Tears welled in her eyes before she even realized they had come. She stumbled back up to her apartment, shut the door behind her, and slid to the floor.
