Noah sat up in bed, still trying to process everything the nurse had just revealed. Anna was his wife. His wife. And she hadn’t told him. The betrayal stung in a way he couldn’t fully understand yet.
The door to his hospital room swung open, breaking the heavy silence. Daniel stood there, his jaw clenched, eyes burning with frustration. He was dressed sharply as always, but the tension in his stance betrayed the calm demeanor he usually carried.
Anna turned, startled. "Daniel? What are you doing here?"
Daniel let out a humorless chuckle. "I should be asking you the same thing, Anna. You haven’t been answering my calls, and I had to find out from a friend that you’ve basically moved into this hospital." His eyes flickered toward Noah. "And now I see why."
Noah's expression darkened as he looked at the man standing in front of him. He didn’t know Daniel, but something about him felt wrong. Too smug, too sure of himself.
Anna took a deep breath, stepping forward. "Daniel, I told you Noah needed me—"
"Did you? Or did you just decide to abandon me like you abandoned everything else when it comes to him?" Daniel’s voice was sharp. "I’ve been patient, Anna, but this? This is ridiculous. He’s your ex-husband."
"Actually," Noah interjected, his voice calm but cutting, "I’m still her husband."
Daniel turned sharply, eyes narrowing. "What?"
Noah tilted his head. "You heard me. We’re still married. You’ve been playing house with a married woman, Daniel. How does that feel?"
Daniel scoffed. "Oh, spare me the act. You might still be legally married, but emotionally? She left you years ago. If you had even a shred of self-respect, you'd let her go instead of holding onto something that’s already broken."
Noah’s grip on the bed tightened, his patience slipping. "Funny, you talk about self-respect while chasing after a woman who's still in love with someone else."
Anna inhaled sharply. "Noah—"
Daniel’s jaw twitched. "You’re delusional. Anna is with me now, and the sooner you accept that, the better."
Noah smirked, leaning back against the pillow. "Then why are you so insecure? If she was really yours, you wouldn’t be here acting like a jealous ex."
Daniel took a step forward, his fists clenching. "You don’t know anything about our relationship."
Noah met his glare, unbothered. "I know enough. And I know Anna. If she really wanted you, she wouldn’t be standing here looking guilty."
Anna shut her eyes, feeling the weight of both their stares on her. "Enough. Both of you. This isn’t a competition."
Daniel exhaled sharply. "You’re right. It’s not." He turned to Anna, his expression filled with hurt. "But I need to know, Anna. Am I wasting my time? Because if you're going to choose him, I need to hear it from you."
Anna swallowed hard. She could feel the walls closing in, the past and present colliding in ways she wasn’t prepared for. Looking at Noah, her heart ached with memories she had tried to bury. And looking at Daniel, she saw the man who had given her comfort when she thought she was beyond repair.
But now, everything was falling apart.
Noah watched her closely, his chest tightening. He had lost her once. And even with his memory still hazy, one thing was clear,he wasn’t ready to lose her again
