It started with the noise of a hard, cracking sound. Its power shook the house, rattled the dishes in the cabinet, and caused a power outage. It was eleven o"clock in the morning and most were at work. This is Southern California and tremors have to be severe before most notice. Those that heard it assumed it was an earthquake or a horrible accident. Some ran out of their houses, but could discover nothing amiss.
I tried calling my power company, but my line was dead. I knew other people were calling the power company to find out how long the outage would be. My cell phone was useless and I had no land line. I went to my auto and turned over the motor to hear the radio. There were no stations coming in whether it was AM or FM except one local AM station.
