Ward Moore’s alternate history tale Bring the Jubilee first appeared as a novella in 1952, then expanded it to novel length in 1953. It was hailed as a important work of science fiction as soon as it appeared. It was Moore’s second published novel.
Bring the JubileeEditor Anthony Boucher recognized its importance and published the short version of it in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in the November, 1952 issue. The next year, it appeared in hardcover from the prestigious publishing company Farrar, Straus and Young. Ballantine Books published it in paperback that same year. (How things have changed—the hardcover cost $2.00, and the paperback cost only 35 cents!)
