Chapter seventeen
Lut’s HammerHieronymus gives a cry of alarm and sits up. The Numen narrows her eyes, and listens with grave attention. Then she turns to Geya and says abruptly, What have you done, wicked one? This is no foolish attempt to help!
Geya rises to her feet and quickly backs away. What do you mean, Grandmother? I have done nothing. Nothing at all.
The expression on the old woman’s face frightens her.
The Numen stands as well, much more slowly, and gropes for her staff. She limps toward Geya, crying, “Murderer!”
She throws up her hands in mock horror. “It was not me, Numen. Raven...”
