Lucian hands-on claps Looks like the tiny Luna is in trouble. anger. I lunge: A whirl of claws and fur crosses me. still another wolf— larger and stronger. Beta Lucian. He crashes into me, eyesight whirl-around. I ground hard. Selene is choking on a scream. Not at all. My wolf yells inside me, past the tiredness and the suffering. I call forth whatever I still possess— Then change. My muscles rip, my bones break,— I'm on four legs then, fur bristling, teeth bared. The beta attacks— I meet him midway through flight, our bodies slamming with bone-crushing force. My teeth plunging deep, I rip muscle from bone into his shoulder. He calls, but I don't stop. With claws tearing over his chest, I slam him to the ground. He twitched once. She said: Then it freezes. I whip around. Selene is still on the ground; the wolf above her is pushing down. I advance quicker than light—that is faster than expected— And down into its neck sink my teeth. One terrible turn— And it ends now. Selene struggles for breath, eyes gone crazy. I turn back, panting hard. Are you wounded? She shocks her head, astonished. Lucian groans. " I was hoping this would last a little longer." I flash at him, blood running from my mouth. Tell them to stop. He leans his head. "And why would I do that?" . I move onwards. "Because if you do not..." Low and poisonous, my voice is a snarl. "I'll ruck your throat out next." He loses interest in entertainment. Tonight marks the first time this year— He strikes me as a menace. excellent. Lucian taps his hand. " Stand down." The last of the wolves back off. Selene holds my arm with a hushed whisper. "Kieran, let's head out." Lucian nods. "Run all you desire, Alpha. Still, she still belongs to me. Something snaps within me. I kick him, rigid. Staggers back, blood running from his split lip. "Try and take her again," I say, snarl. "And I'm going to finish you." Lucian licked blood from his lip. "Oh, Kierán." He smiles. "I'd like to see you try." I spend no more seconds wasting. I take hold of Selene's hand— We also vanish into the evening. The wind yells around us, the woodland blurring as we sprint. Selene is struggling to breathe; her fingers are tightly around mine. She asks, "Where are we going?" gasping. "Somewhere safe," I say. I stop neither here nor here. Not until I start to smell freshwater. Not until I come to the cave buried behind the waterfall. I draw her inside and press her up against the chilly granite. "We'll hang here until I have a strategy." Her body still quakes from the battle; her chest rises and falls too quickly. I put her face in copper. "Selene, exhale." Her eyes darted to me, turbulent and incomprehensible. "You almost died tonight, Kieran." She trembles in her voice. I clean a sloshy dirt smear off her cheek. But I didn't." She lets out a strong gulp before— She moves in front of us. far too near. Her taste, her friendliness— I can feel it all. Her fingertips creep up my chest across the previously healed scars. "You would really die for me?" she says softly. I hesitate at all. Yes. Silence as a pulse. She approaches in a leaning posture. Her lips gently, hesitating, touch mine. Everything within me gets tense. I stay put. I do not withdraw. I am unable. Still, before I can kiss her back— A good sound, a weak, guttural scream. Selene stiffness. I shift. Eyes: **watch us from the darkness—glowing red**. The wolves of Lucian discovered us. Selene holds my hand as her eyes show terror. "Kieran…." Her body coils to struggle as I place her behind me. The shadows change: And a fresh number walks forward. Tall, extensive, with eyes like mine. My heartbeat pauses. Selene murmurs, shocked. "Who Is That?" I blink not once. I never breathe. Since I exactly know who it is. "My brother. "Stay behind me." Selene's breath catches, her fingers gripping my arm. The cave echoes the deep, terrible roar. Red eyes flash like fire out of the darkness. Wolves of Lucian. We have been located by them. Selene's pulse hammering fiercely against my flesh. "Kieran—" "I know," I say in a whisper. My body stiffens in readiness for a battle. I go across the darkness. Three in all. Perhaps more hiding just outside. I still have injuries that are mending. I'm not running at my best. I will not let them take her though. Not at all. The initial wolf lunches— I go right away. I sidestep, whirl, and elbow bang her ribs. The effect sends it skidding over the rough floor. Still another lunges for my throat: I twist its neck midway through the flight. A terrible c***k. It collapses. Selene steps in closer and lets out a faltering breath. There is one wolf left, but it does not attack. It delays. There is stillness broken by a slow clap. I stiffen. Lucian enters the cave with glistening chilly delight in his eyes. 'Impressive, Alpha.'" His voice is taunting but soft. But by now you ought to know... I show up ready every time. Still, my pulse thuds like battle drums. Selene takes hold of my wrist. "Kieran; we have to leave." Lucian leans back with a smile. "Oh, I do not think so." He clicks his fingers quickly. More wolves pouring into the cave, their eyes ablaze with hunger, causes the ground to shake. Too many. Her hand closes tightly in mine. Tonight, for the first time, I experience— a thin layer of uncertainty. We find ourselves caught. Negotiating the Devil "you cannot win this fight, Kieran." Lucian speaks gently yet with assurance. Walking slowly forward, his hounds circle like vultures. But I'm feeling giving right now. I show my teeth, my wolf growling inside of me. "I want your damned generosity not here." She laughs. " Oh, I think you will." His gaze swings to Selene. My heart gets tense. Knowing this. She is my vulnerability, he knows. Lucian moves his head. "Give me Selene." and I shall let you live. Selene becomes rigid next to me. My blood seizes. "Over my dead body". Lucian sighs without thinking. "That's what I felt." He nods. Attack among the wolves. I put Selene behind me and change rapidly— My wolf snaps bones with fangs, claws cutting through flesh. It bursts forward. Still, there are far too many. A wolf slams me into the cave wall from my side. I groan, agony blazing across my ribs. Still another closes its fangs on my leg. I snarl, whirl loose, but claws scratch down my back. Selene is yell my name— Lucian takes hold of her wrist. Fury. I extend myself for him, but— Teeth pushing me down penetrate into my shoulder. Lucian lets forth a little smile. "Not so strong currently, are you?" I scream, lifting. -- My ribs flash with a piercing, blind agony. The silver dagger owned by Lucian. He turns it by stabbing deeply. I groan and start to choke. Selene is whirling against his hold. "KierAN!" Lucian yanks her rear. "Enough." I'm pinned down by the wolves. I fight; my vision is fogging. The face of Selene is contorted with terror.
