The rogue’s attack

940 Words
Stephanie’s heart pounded as the rogue wolf charged toward the center of the Silverfang camp. It was large and angry, with dark fur and sharp teeth. The camp warriors were busy fighting others at the edge. No one was close enough to stop this one in time. She gripped the small knife Darien had given her. Her hands shook, but she remembered his training. Breathe. Stay low. Use your size. “Stay back!” one of the healers shouted, but Stephanie stepped forward. She wouldn’t let fear control her anymore. The rogue lunged. Stephanie dodged to the side like Darien had taught her. She swung the knife and caught the wolf’s shoulder. It yelped but kept coming. She moved again, staying light on her feet. The rogue snapped at her leg, but she jumped back just in time. A Silverfang warrior finally reached them and tackled the rogue to the ground. They fought hard. Stephanie helped by throwing a heavy rock at the rogue’s head, distracting it long enough for the warrior to finish the fight. The camp grew quiet again. The rogues had been pushed back. Stephanie’s hands were still shaking, but she felt a rush of pride. She had fought. She hadn’t frozen. The Silverfang alpha approached her. “You did well, Luna. Thank you for your courage.” Word spread quickly through the camp. The healers praised her. Stephanie felt different — stronger. The outcast girl from her uncle’s cabin was gone. She was becoming someone new. That night, she sat by a small fire with the Silverfang leaders. They shared stories about the hard winter and their gratitude for Crescent Moon’s help. Stephanie listened and offered ideas about better ways to store food for winter. They seemed surprised but pleased by her thoughts. The bond with Darien stayed warm in her chest. She could feel he was safe, though far away. It gave her comfort as she tried to sleep in the simple tent. Meanwhile, miles north, Darien led his warriors against the rogue camp. His massive black wolf tore through enemies with powerful force. He fought with focus, thinking of Stephanie the whole time. When the battle ended in victory, he shifted back and looked toward the south. “I hope she’s okay,” he said quietly to one of his men. The next morning, Stephanie prepared to return home. The Silverfang alpha gave her gifts of thanks — dried herbs and woven blankets. The journey back was tense but peaceful. No new attacks came. When the Blackthorn Mansion came into view, her heart lifted. Darien was waiting at the front steps. The moment she stepped down from the horse, he pulled her into his arms. He held her tight, breathing her in. “I felt you through the bond,” he said. “You were in danger. Tell me what happened.” Stephanie told him everything — the rogue that charged her, how she fought back, and how she helped the camp afterward. Darien listened with pride in his silver eyes. He kissed her deeply right there in front of the family. “You were brave,” he said softly. “I’m so proud of you.” They went to their suite. Darien checked her for injuries, his hands gentle on her body. Then he pulled her close and made love to her slowly. He worshipped every part of her, showing how much he had missed her. Their bodies moved together with deep need and love. The bond glowed strong between them as they found pleasure in each other. Afterward, they lay together, talking quietly. Darien told her about the successful strike on the rogue camp. “We weakened them, but the leader escaped. We still don’t know who is behind this.” Stephanie rested her head on his chest. “We’ll find out. Together.” The next few days passed with careful peace. Darien trained with her every morning. He showed her more advanced moves and praised her progress. In the afternoons, they walked the lands or sat in the meadow. Their love grew deeper with every touch and conversation. But the threats didn’t stop. One evening, a scout brought bad news. “The rogues have joined with another group. They’re planning a bigger attack on our borders. And they’re still asking about the outcast Luna.” Darien’s face hardened. He looked at Stephanie. “They won’t get near you. But we need to end this soon.” Alpha Thorne called a full pack meeting. Plans were made for a large defense. Stephanie offered to help organize supplies for the warriors. Everyone listened to her ideas now. She was no longer invisible. That night, as she and Darien lay in bed, he held her close. “You’ve changed everything for me. I was the beast they feared. Now I have something worth protecting.” Stephanie kissed him softly. “And I have someone who sees me.” They fell asleep in each other’s arms. The bond felt unbreakable. But in the middle of the night, urgent howls woke the entire mansion. This time the attack was bigger. Rogues had broken through the outer defenses and were heading straight for the main gates. Darien jumped up and dressed fast. “Stay with my mother and Damien. I have to lead the defense.” Stephanie watched him shift into his powerful black wolf and run out. The sounds of battle filled the night air once more. She stood at the window, fear and determination mixing inside her. The rogues were getting closer to the heart of the pack. And they were still coming for her.
