Chapter 8

“I don't know Dad, she just burst into flames and then passed out. Apparently she has 2 mates. Yeah I know her second will be mine too. Yes, she's at the white glacier pack hospital. Yeah Alpha Bennett and his Luna gave her the Luna room so it's nice and big. Yeah, bring her mom too. I'll see you soon. Love you too.” Owen. He must be so worried. My eyes were still so heavy I couldn't open them. And soon I drifted back to sleep.

I dreamed of the ocean. Owen and I were there. We looked out to the sky from the rocky beach we were on. A dragon was flying towards us. It landed in the surf and I immediately felt the bond snap into place when the dragon looked at me. The dragon shifted and a very muscular man stepped onto the beach. He had long curly black hair. A chiseled jaw and reddish brown eyes. “MATES!” He yelled when he looked at the two of us. The dream faded into darkness.

“Oh my poor baby. I wish your father were here he would have known would have warned us. Curse him!” My mother sounded like she was crying.

“It'll be ok Pamela, the doctor said she doesn't have any burns. Just a fever. And that's gone down considerably.” Osborn’s voice was hushed but calming. “She'll be ok.”

“Mama,” I croak out. My voice is hoarse and mouth dry. She grabs my hand and hovers over me. “I'm thirsty.” Then sleep claims me again.

“She woke up and said she was thirsty but fell asleep again” Osborn’s voice was firm and quiet. I could feel the sparks coming from my right hand. And my mother's touch on my left.

“Ok, looks like the fever is starting to break. So this is good. I think. Never treated a Phoenix before.” The doctor from before said. “The alpha wants to speak with you all once she's awake. He's given a command to the whole pack to not say anything. Since Phoenixs are so rare. So you'll not need to worry about rumors or anything hunting her.” I drifted back to sleep.

I dreamed again of the dragon. “Little mate you came to me again.” His voice was gruff but soothing. “Tell me where you are.”

“A pack hospital. I burst into flames. Who are you?” I was in a daze. My dragon mate was sitting on a rock in a cave with a small fire in front of him.

“I'm Reed. You burst into flames?” He had an accent but I couldn't place it. His eyebrows knitted together. When his reddish eyes looked at me.

“Yes, my Phoenix was calling for her other mate. My mate Owen and I. We need you to complete our bond. We didn't know I'd have two. Where are you, we'll come.”

“No no little mate. I'll come to you. Tell me where you are. Where exactly?” his voice was deeper this time, gruffer.

“The White Glacier pack hospital. In Montana.”

“That will take me 8 days you wait there, little mate” his eyes held such an intense look. I gasped when he looked at me. I felt so raw. Then everything faded.

The faint beeping of a hospital machine woke me up. The tingles in my right hand were shooting up my arm. “Owen.” I whispered. My voice is still froggy. His head shot up from where he rested it.

“Zoe! Baby open your eyes sweet one” his touch hardened on my hand “come on baby wake up for real for me please.”

“Owen.” My eyes fluttered open. The lights were very bright. I groaned and closed them again.”the lights.”

“Ms.Pam the lights turn the lights off,” Owen whisper yelled. There was a click. “Thanks. Zoe the lights are off now. Can you open your eyes again? Please” Owen squeezed my hand. My eyes fluttered open again. The light was now softer and my eyes adjusted to the day light streaming in from the windows. “Oh thank the goddess sweet Zoe.” He kisses my palm. There were tears in his eyes. I placed my palm on his cheek and smiled up at him. Brushing the tears away with my thumb.

“I love you, bear man,” I whispered. I tried to swallow but my mouth was too dry.

“I love you too. Promise to stop passing out on me?” He grabbed ice water off of a table that had a long straw in it. I sucked down half of it.

“No promises. But I think I can promise to not pass out again until our mate comes.then you two can comfort each other while I'm K.O.ed,” I smile up at him.

“Well she's over here making jokes she's fine. See Pamela what did I tell you?” Osborn said from the other side of the bed. I looked over at my mama. She had tears in her eyes.

“Our other mate?” Owen pulled my attention back to him.

“Yes, a dragon named Reed. I dreamed about him. He said it would take him 8 days to get here.” I look at him and he.looks confused, his eyebrows knit together. “ I think my Phoenix did it. Called out to him, astral projected me to him or something.”

“A dragon though, one fire type is enough now I got two. Goddess help me.” Owen sank his head down onto my lap. I giggled and placed my hand on his head stroking his hair. Osborn laughed too. And my mama.

“I'm so glad you're alright sweetie. Your father must have thought you were a male. So he gave me the wrong information before he left me.” She looked almost defeated.

“Don't worry mama if he comes back I'll have plenty of hell to raise with him myself.” There's a knock on the door then. A man and his mate stand on the doorway.

“Sorry to interrupt. I wanted to see how the young girl was doing. Glad to see she's finally awake. I'm Alpha Bennett and this is my mate Luna Monica. I believe you met my beta and his mate before.” He steps into the room and behind him are the young couple from 15 years ago. “This is Beta Greg and his mate Kelly.” The alpha introduced them but I didn't need an introduction. I remember them very clearly.

“Your puppy needed a blanket.” I remembered what I had said all those years ago. Everyone looked so confused, except the beta and his mate.

“Yes, our daughter, Penelope. She was born premature and in a snow storm. Luckily we already had a blanket.” Kelly says, smiling at me. “Like hundreds by time she was born, Greg wouldn't stop buying them said ‘that little girl was weird and I listen to weird little girls who tell me things they shouldn't know’” I giggled again and beta Greg looked embarrassed.

“Literally every story, about a strange little girl who knows things she shouldn't, comes back to that she's some sort of all-powerful being.” He crosses his arms and looks defensive. “And I wasn't wrong now was I? Good thing we added her home under the pack's protection when we did too.”

“You protected us?” My mama asks the alpha and beta. They nod. “But why? I had the bears too.”

“Because of my Beta we were able to make alliances with many of the bears in the area. We expanded our ranks. 5 wolves found their mates and had cubs and pups. And many of our young and late bloomers found out they were shifters. After being sent to your shop and talking to the girl. Although that stopped rather quickly.” The alpha said, stepping forward to the foot of my bed. “Best non alliance I ever made. Hands down.” The alpha smiled at me and my mama.

“but you never said anything.” My mama whispered.

“You were busy enough as it was. You didn't need to worry. And there was no point unless you were actually in danger which never happened.” The Beta continued. “Buuuut now that you do know. We need a new shop to order our pack supplies through sooo…” I giggled looking at my mama.

“We can place those orders there's a 5% fee on top of the final order total.” I stated. While my mama sat there shocked. We weren't struggling but I know the extra money would help her tremendously and she would finally be able to pay off the mortgage.

“That won't do. Nope, I insist on 10%. “ The alpha stated. My mama and I both looked at him in bewilderment.

“You're really bad at negotiating.” My mama said. Everyone laughed until I started coughing. Owen got me a drink of water and rubbed my back.

“I'm fine. Just a dry throat” I cleared my throat again and thanked Owen for the water. “My other mate is coming. In a few days. His name is Reed and he's a dragon. Will you redirect him to our cabin when he comes?”

“Absolutely. When the three of you are united I want a formal alliance.” The alpha stated. Owen and I nod.

“Can we go home now?” I ask the room but I'm looking at Owen. All I want is to snuggle up to him and wait for our mate.
