The first Sin- Alex

I told myself I would not lose control tonight. Christmas music played softly through the house. Guests moved between rooms, voices blending with the smell of roasted food and pine decorations. Safe. Normal. Except she was standing across the room with Daniel again. Laughing. That soft, careless laugh she only used when she wanted someone to like her. Daniel was clearly trying too hard. Talking too much. Standing too close. And I hated how natural she looked beside him. “Relax,” her father said beside me, clapping my shoulder. “She’s just being social.” “I am relaxed,” I said. I wasn’t. Because Daniel’s hand was resting lightly near the small of her back. Not inappropriate. Not offensive. Just… familiar. Like he had permission. She looked up then. And saw me watching. Her lips curved slightly. Reckless girl. She excused herself from Daniel and walked toward me slowly. Deliberately. Like she was walking toward trouble she wanted. “You’ve been staring at me all evening,” she said quietly when she reached me. “I have responsibilities as your father’s friend,” I replied. She tilted her head. “Or jealousy.” I didn’t answer immediately. Because she wasn’t wrong. “You shouldn’t play games with men who are already watching you closely,” I said instead. “Are you threatening me?” she asked softly. “No.” I stepped closer. Close enough that if anyone turned around, they would just see two people talking about normal Christmas things. “You’re dangerous,” I said quietly. She smiled. “I like when you say that.” That was when I lost patience. Not violently. Not aggressively. Just… decisively. My hand went to her waist. Firm enough to make her inhale sharply. Not rough. But possessive enough that she knew exactly what I meant. “You want my attention?” I asked. “Yes,” she said immediately. Honest. Too honest. My control snapped. I pulled her slightly behind the Christmas tree where the lights were dimmer and the music and voices from the living room were louder. Hidden. But not alone. Never completely alone. “You keep pushing me,” I murmured. “You keep stopping yourself,” she replied. That was it. The final crack. I leaned down and kissed her. Slowly at first. Testing. Waiting for her to pull away. She didn’t. Instead, her fingers grabbed the front of my shirt like she was afraid I would disappear. The kiss deepened on its own. Not rushed. Not loud. Just dangerous in how controlled it was. When I finally pulled back, her breathing was uneven. “We shouldn’t have done that,” I said quietly. “No,” she agreed. But she didn’t move away. And neither did I. Because somewhere behind us, her father was laughing loudly with guests. And if anyone turned around at the wrong moment… Everything would be over. “You need to go back to Daniel,” I said roughly. She shook her head slightly. “Not tonight,” she whispered. And I knew then I was completely, utterly doomed.
