Chapter 6: The First Day

RILEY

James left Saturday morning after breakfast. Things were still a little tense between Brynn and I. Walking upstairs I decided to change into my bikini to go for a swim.

Knock knock

“Come in” I say getting out my bright blue two piece. Brynn steps inside.

“…Hi” she says quietly.

“Hey, you wanna swim?” I ask.

She smiles warmly at me, “you’re not mad?” I shake my head.

“Of course not, B. I know you are protective over me”.

Brynn smiles, “thank goodness. Well then. Let’s change and get tipsy poolside” she says.

“Sounds like a perfect day” I tell her.

It was hard to ever stay mad at Brynn. She meant well even if she couldn’t keep her mouth closed. Regardless of the inner turmoil I spent most of my days in, I was thankful to have Brynn Marie Banks by my side.

Monday morning I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to get into the swing of summer at the pool. Hours are 10am-6pm every day except for special events. Eventually Ann will providing swim lessons in the morning.

My alarm sounds at 7am and as usual the snooze button is my best friend.

Boom boom boom!

There’s pounding on the other side of the bathroom door. I shoot straight up in bed.

“Turn the damn thing off!” Ben yells. I shake my head and lay back down.

“What? I can’t hear you. My alarm is too loud” I yell back.

“I’m serious, Riley” he threatens. My alarm continues as I stand up to change. I laugh as the pounding continues. He may ruffle my feathers most of the time but I have to admit that it feels nice to return the favor. Slipping my top off I then hook my fingers into my shorts to pull them off when the door flies open.

Ben marches in but stops suddenly when he realizes that I’m topless. My eyes go wide as his eyes travel down to my breasts.

I feel heat flood my face and my n*****s harden under his gaze. I quickly wrap my arm across my bare chest.

“What the…” I start to say. Ben steps closer and smirks.

“I did give you a warning” he says stepping around me and turning off my alarm. Turning to face me, his eyes travel downward again. I grab his face and lift it.

“You can leave now…” I say still covered.

“See you at work, boss” he winks.

My whole body relaxes as he leaves.

Bennett Madden is going to be the death of me this summer. Quickly, I change into my swimsuit and pull my shorts and t-shirt over.

Walking through to the pool, excitement builds in my stomach.

“Happy opening day” Ann says. I raise my hands and cheer.

My crew for the day starts to arrive. Included in that group is Ben, Olivia, Milo, Jade, and Raven.

Olivia wraps her arms around me.

“What better way to kick off the summer than with two delicious men” she says looking over at Milo and Ben.

“Olivia, keep your d**k in your bathing suit” I joke. She waggles her eyebrows at me and pulls me over to them.

“Ready for a good shift?” She asks. Bens eyes travel up and down her body.

“I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced. I’m Ben Madden” he says grabbing her hand. Her face turns bright red.

“Olivia Stanford” she says flirtatiously. Ben looks at me out of the corner of his eye. I scoff and shake my head before walking away.

“It’s gonna be a long summer with those two, huh?” Milo says walking along side me. I let out a soft chuckle before looking over my shoulder at the pair shamelessly flirting with each other.

“I wouldn’t hold my breath. Bens type seems to be…girl” I say.

“You know him?” Milo asks sounding a bit jealous. I shake my head.

“Not well. He’s my best friends brother” I say.

He nods his head.

I whistle my crew over.

“Alright guys. 30 minutes at each station then we break for 15. Stay diligent. No phones. Let’s have a good summer” I say excitedly.

Each lifeguard takes their station. I start off at the top of the water slide. Olivia is in the water at the bottom. The day goes fairly quickly and without incident which is always a plus.

My last station is by the diving boards which I always enjoy. Heat fills my cheeks as I feel eyes on me. I glance over at Ben whose sitting in a relaxed pose, his arm draped over the back of the chair. I cross my legs and stick my tongue out at him like a child.

He smiles at me before looking back over the pool. We continue this charade for awhile. He seems to enjoy getting a rise out of me but for some reason I’m enjoying it today. Despite the fact that he saw my t**s this morning. Oh god. He saw my t**s this morning. That’s why he’s so smiley at me. I cross my arms over my chest and look back at the diving boards.

I glance down at my watch and notice the time. I blow the whistle three times signally that it’s time to get out of the pool. Once the pool is cleared I let my guards know they’re cleared to come down.

“I’m starving!” Olivia says grabbing my arm.

“Let’s eat” I tell her pulling her to the concession stand.

“Can I get a hotdog and a water?” I ask standing there. A brawny arm slugs across my shoulders. I’m no longer surprised by Bens efforts.

I ignore him as I’m handed a box with my food in it. Ben takes my hotdog and takes a bite.

“Sorry, was that YOUR hotdog?” He asks. I roll my eyes at him. He thinks that bothers me? I grew up with 3 older siblings. I’m used to this s**t.

Walking over to one of the picnic tables I sit next to Olivia and start eating.

“Why are the pool hotdogs the best?” I ask.

Olivia shrugs, “I don’t know but I could definitely eat 4 more” she says. I laugh at her as Ben and Milo take seats across from us.

Seeing my opportunity I swipe my finger through the cheese on Bens nachos. He watches intently as I stick my finger into my mouth and suck the cheese off.

“I’m sorry, was that YOUR cheese?” I say smirking. Olivia looks between us. Ben grins at me keeping his gaze locked on mine. I break eye contact and continue talking to Olivia.

Lifeguarding is fun and but the sun takes a lot out you and I was ready to get home.

“Honey, I’m home” I say trudging through the front door. There are at least seven bags piled by the entrance.

Brynn hugs me like she hasn’t seen me in years.

“I missed you! Mom and Sam leave tonight for Barcelona so it’ll officially be just us” she says excitedly. Brynn has been known to throw some wild parties while they’re off gallivanting through other countries.

In fact, her mom seems to encourage it.

“I guess that means…” I start to say.

“First party of the summer is this Saturday! Invite your friends” she says before disappearing into the kitchen.

The door behind me opens and Ben steps in.

“Leaving already?” He asks surveying the bags.

“You wish” I tell him before making my way to the stairs.

Showering felt so nice. My skin was sensitive from being in the sun all day. I tend to cake on the sunscreen in the summertime. Unlike my siblings though, I am able to hold a tan which is a plus of being a lifeguard.

When I walked into the bedroom Brynn was laying on my bed.

“I have a problem” she says. I pull on a pair of shorts and t-shirt.

“Lay it on me” I tell her, brushing my hair out.

“I want to invite John Sanders to the party” she says biting her bottom lip.

“John? As in Mac, your ex and James, my boyfriends best friend” I ask. She nods.

In all honesty, I was surprised by this. Especially after the big showdown that happened between Brynn and Megan this past year over Mac. Not to mention the hatred she had for James.

“Where did this come from? I thought you hated all 3 of them” I ask.

“Well…John and I have been in touch and he’s so sweet” Brynn says like she’s trying to convince herself.

“You do know that if John comes then Mac and James will probably come too right?”

Brynn makes a disgusted face.

“I know. I know.” She says.

I text James to let him know about the party and to invite Mac too. To my surprise I get a quick response. Of course it would be a party that gets a response.

“Yay! Okay, let’s go shopping. I want to buy a dress for the party” Brynn says.

We browse dresses at multiple shops and boutiques.

“Oh my gosh! This dress is gorgeous!” Brynn says holding up a shimmery blue dress. She tries on dress after dress as I sit patiently.

“Are you not going to try anything on?” She asks me poking her head out of the dressing room.

I shake my head, “no, I don’t want to spend the money. I have dresses at home” I tell her. She gives me a look that I don’t like.

“Try this one. I just tried it and it doesn’t look right on me” she says handing me a dress.

“Yeah right, B. My body type is way different than yours” I tell her.

“So it’ll fit you like a glove. Try it on. Please??” She begs. I let out a sigh and move into the dressing room next to hers.

I hold the slinky black dress up and grumble while dropping my clothes to the floor. The dress slides nicely over my thighs until it gets to my hips which I have to give an extra tug. I slide my arms through the thin spaghetti strap arm holes that are connected to the front of the dress just below my armpits.

Tugging the fabric to settle it on my body I look into the mirror and my eyes widen. I’ve never worn a dress like this before. From the front the dress hugs every curve of my body. From my breasts that are slightly pushing out of the top, to my small waist where the fabric clings, down to my hips where the dress accentuates my ass.

Turning, I look over my shoulder and see that the entire back is open and ends right above my ass.

“Let me see! Do you like it?” Brynn asks.

“Brynn…I..I love it!” I say admiring my figure which is definitely made more prominent.

I open the door and step out. Brynns eyes go wide and her mouth drops open. She wipes the corner of her mouth.

“Holy f*****g s**t. If I was a guy..” she says and I start laughing.

“Seriously Riley, you look hot as hell. I’m buying that dress for you” she says again. I shake my head at her.

“No way” I tell her going to look at the price. Brynn grabs my hand away from the tag.

“I am. It’s my gift to you. Let me” she says.

“I’ll wear it with pride” I tell her.

“James better appreciate you in this dress or I swear I’ll..”

“If he doesn’t..I’ll just have to find someone who does” I say half joking.

The first person that came to mind when I made that comment was Ben. Why? Why Ben? There was no doubt that he was attractive but he would never be interested in me for real and even if he was. He is my best friends brother.
