Lyva jumps back at him, her jaw closes on the scruff of his neck, using her to hang on as her paws tear into his back. I cry out as the baby makes his entrance into the room, and everything shifts in slow motion. The feral sound of the wolves tearing into each other reverberates around the room, mixed with my whimpers of pain. Pryderi lifts the baby, his tiny form raised up and quickly ties and cuts the cord that binds us. She moves her fingers confidently, clearing his mouth and holding him slanted upside down. The sharp sound of my son’s first cry breaks through the chaos and Pryderi moves quickly to shield him from the disturbing fight behind her. I watch as she cleans his shaking bloodied form.
