CHAPTER 7

"What do you mean?" Grandma blinked. "The process was done before I went to the palace." Ivy bit her lips hard. "All the paperwork is officially done. I'm not Ivy Reed anymore." "What nonsense are you saying? This is not funny anymore." "I am serious. I'm Ivy Greenwood now." Greenwood. That surname belonged to Emma before she came to Silver moon. It was handed to Ivy before she left the pack. Ivy still remembered the day when Alpha Victor stamped those papers. Without hesitation. The sound of stamps hitting the papers screamed in her face : YOU'RE AN OUTSIDER. The door suddenly swung open. It hit the wall loudly, startling them both. Ivy couldn't find it in her to be surprised to see Luke fuming at the door. Grandma lived by herself and rarely had guests over. She was also getting older, so in order to prevent any accidents, her wing wasn't made soundproof like the rest of the pack house. Everything they talked about was heard by Luke who was standing outside for a long time. "What did you just say?!" Ivy looked at his dark face in confusion. She assumed Alpha Victor hid the truth from Grandma for health reasons. But he didn't tell them either? "Are you mute?! Say something, damn it! Did you change your last name?!" Luke demanded. "Alpha Victor changed it." Ivy corrected. "Are you nuts?" He heaved. "Why would he do that?" "I don't know. Why don't you ask Alpha Victor himself?" Alpha Victor. Not dad. Alpha. Luke's gaze slowly shifted between Ivy and their Grandma. It wasn't a sick joke. The initial disbelief turned into anger. He didn't stick around after that. Turning on his heels, Luke ran all the way to the main house to find his dad. His parents liked to start their morning slow with a cup of coffee. The main house was louder and more crowded with maids than the side wing. Luke felt calmer in the chaos. He looked at his parents from a distance. He didn't think twice when lashing out on others, but his father was a different case. He calmed down a bit before approaching. "Luke, come join us." Luna Doris waved him over. Luke stomped over but didn't take a seat. He stood in front of his dad, looked him in the eye and asked, "Dad, is it true that you changed Ivy's last name?" The direct question caught both of them off guard. Luna Doris threw him a look but Luke wasn't paying attention. Alpha Victor calmly sipped his coffee, as if the question wasn't worth his time. Their reactions spoke volumes. "So it is true." He realised. "You removed her out of the family and didn't even tell us." Once again, all he received was silence. His mother didn't meet his eyes, and his father didn't mind being the bad guy. He scoffed, "Unbelievable." Since they weren't going to answer him, Luke didn't feel like sticking around either. Without another word, he turned and left the room. - It was late afternoon time and the pack house was still bustling with energy. Ivy left the side wing with her stomach full from the delicious lunch Brenda made. She took the direct route this time and directly upstairs to the third floor. She happened to look down accidentally and saw Alpha Victor, Luna Doris and Jaxon together in the living room. Ivy's gaze lingered on Alpha Victor for a second longer. Three years later, he still looked the same. That strict air hadn't moved an inch away from him. Luna Doris perfectly balanced out his temperament with her gentle nature. Just that she rarely spoke in front of him. Ivy didn't realise it before, but now clearly looked like Luna Doris was suppressed around him as well. On the other hand, Jaxon sat straight as a rod. His formal attire was impeccable as always. As the Alpha of Moonfall pack, he represented strength in every possible way. Leaning in a bit, she saw Emma there as well. The girl sat nervously on the sofa, twisting her fingers together. Ivy was about to leave after a look when suddenly, as if sensing her gaze, Emma lifted her head and spotted her. "Mom, Ivy is back." Emma said loudly. The discussion between Alpha Victor and Jaxon halted abruptly. Suddenly all eyes were on Ivy. Luna Doris smiled at her from a distance, asking her to join them. Ivy found it utterly ridiculous. "I'll pass." She said, intending to leave. "Join us, Ivy. You are a part of this." Alpha Victor ordered. Part of what? The family? The meeting? Ivy silently made her way down, chose the farthest possible seat and sat down. She didn't look up, didn't meet anyone's eyes and didn't talk. It was always hard to breathe around them. She focused on slow breathing rather than their eyes on her. Especially Alpha Victor, who stared at her like she was an object. "Alpha Jaxon, as I was saying before we got interrupted," Alpha Victor started, "I want this engagement to be done within a month. It's been delayed long enough. Everyone is pretty much aware of it, so why delay the official announcement?" "Moonfall pack has always intended to strengthen the alliance through marriage. We are in full agreement with it as well." Luna Doris glanced at Ivy and said, "Originally, Ivy was engaged to you but circumstances have changed." "Emma had grown into an impressive individual." She continued. "We believe she will make a suitable Luna for the Moonfall pack." Emma's face flushed. She nudged Luna Doris and the two exchanged smiles. Ivy was the only one left confused. Wasn't it already decided? Emma had worn that ring as early as three years ago. Alpha Victor nodded in agreement, "For the sake of both packs, it would be best if Ivy stepped aside." The statement was delivered calmly. It was more of a verdict that Ivy was expected to follow without questioning it. Nobody asked what Ivy thought. "And what does Ivy think? Shouldn't you ask the person involved?" Everyone looked at the person who just entered. Grandma Norma was helped in by Brenda. The two old ladies supported each other until they reached the living room. She took a seat among others and dared to glare at her son, the Alpha. "Mom, why are you outside? Your body is weak... You can't handle excessive movement right now." Alpha Victor said. "I know my limits." She tapped her cane. "Let's hear what Ivy had to say about this arrangement." Does it really matter? Her opinion won't change anything. Everything had been decided already. Ivy had to simply go along with it whether she liked it or not. But when grandma asked the question, she took a moment to think and said, "I don't mind. I'll step aside." Emma let go of the breath she had been holding. She squeezed Luna Doris's arm and smiled happily. Alpha Victor nodded in satisfaction too.
