~Tyler~
He parked a seat right behind mine again.
"Hello, I'm Harry, and you are?" I sighed, knowing this boy desperately needed God, whether he knew it or not.
"Hi, my name is Tyler Caldwell." He furrowed his brows confused.
"That's a boy's name." I huffed. I needed to stay calm and be kind.
"It's a unisex name here in America." He pursed his lips and smirked. That's when I noticed his facial piercings. He had one in his lower lip on the left side.
"Same in England." I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore him.
"I'm going to call you Ty. Is that alright?" I shook my head because then it would be a boy's name, in my opinion. Only Juniper and Beverly get to call me that. I never declared it my official nickname, but it is something people naturally call me.
"Ty, it is." Oh gosh, it's the first day, and I'm ready for a schedule change. I decided to ignore him. I said I couldn't get distracted, and this random boy is distracting. I had to remember that the lost need Jesus too. I'm no better than him, but he is on a very different journey than me.
"Ty, I know what you need," He rolled his sleeves, and I could see the ink on his arms, and barely any skin showed through. All the tiny details in his skin were intriguing, but wrong here. I also wonder how much money he spent? Did he have a friend who did them for free? Does he have a job?
"Harry, I don't want to hear it."
"Oh, Ty-"
"It's Tyler and only Tyler." He chuckled and scooted his seat closer. I rolled my eyes. The other girls, around me, were giggling, finding this funny. It's like God dangled a temptation in my face, and is telling me not to worry.
This boy is full of hot air. He is the biggest turnoff.
"Oh, come on, you don't want to have fun with me?" He asked, making me roll my eyes at his immoral suggestion.
"No, not interested." This guy is having a hard time getting the hint.
"Someone's fastidious today." I rolled my eyes at his spiteful remark.
"Maybe I wouldn't be if you stop," I mumbled.
"Damn, chill." He huffed, but I could feel his smirk from here.
"Harry, don't say that." He sat back in his seat, with a triumphant smirk on his face, and ignored me for the rest of the class. I listened to the professor and copied the notes down. The quiz is in two weeks.
"One more thing, for classmate bonding, you are going to be partnered up to do a project. The computer has been programmed to pick your partner for you. So, I will give you a color the computer chose. Here are your sticks, and you have to go find your partner and no switching colors." Professor King said as she passed out the colors.
I got a pink stick.
"Okay, go find your partners and plan a schedule on when you work together." Professor King announced.
"Weekends are best, and you have until the quiz." I stood up and looked up at Harry.
"Move." He chuckled low and deep.
"Tyler, we have the same color." He lifted his pink-colored stick. A few of the girls looked upset about the fact Harry is my partner.
Why do they care?
"The person you're paired up with will be your desk partner until further notice."
I'm so thrilled.
"Alright, guys, you are free to go, but pick up your assignment on the way out.
Gathering my stuff, I caught up with Harry and grabbed the assignment. I hope he's the type of partner to help me.
"Alright, what do we have here?" Harry said, snatching the paper out of my hands. Before I could protest, he lifted a finger to silence me.
"f*****g circles." His language was inappropriate.
"Language," I told him, and he rolled his eyes.
"Seriously, you're concerned about the words I use?" He let out a laugh.
"Yes, we aren't allowed to curse." His jaw slightly dropped and scoffed.
"That is such a stupid rule." He walked with me, more like followed me. I wanted to start this at lunch.
"Can I help you?" He shook his head. He took long strides next to my short ones.
"I mean, I do need a guide for the school." Is he for real?
"Find a boy to do that. I'm not supposed to be alone with a boy because staying pure is important." He froze in the middle of the hallway. I looked back at him to see he was staring at me like I've grown three more heads.
"Oh my god what the actual fu-"
"Don't finish that, and don't say the Lord's name in vain." He shut his mouth, clenching his jaw and shaking his head.
"I cannot stand this place." He mumbled. We were alone in the hallway.
After all, the professor let us out early to plan the quiz grade.
"Well, Harry, we need to get started." I don't think I can wait until after lunch to start this. He grumbled, and we went to the library, a place with more people. We found a seat and got awkward stares. I'm guessing it's because of Harry. He had taken off his sweater and was in the polo shirt the boys were required to wear. I'm trying to figure out when he changed out of the long sleeve. Well, he did leave class, claiming to need the restroom. He probably went to his dorm to change.
Sitting down, I pulled out my supplies, and I began to read the instructions. It didn't seem too hard.
Both of us had to come up with an equation and graph it, and have a typed essay describing how the equation works.
"Okay, do you know how to do this?" Harry nodded and looked over the paper again.
"I didn't live under a rock my whole life. Of course, I know what to do." He pulled out a blank piece of paper and began to draw the circles and write the equations. I was too busy staring at how fast he was going before I realized he finished five questions.
"Hey, leave me some," I complained and pulled out my markers and other colored pens.
"Fine, then you do these." He gave me five circles. They are twenty altogether, and he already did five. I got up and went to grab a bulletin board because I want this to look pretty. Coming back with it, he looked at me, confused.
"What the f**k are we going to do with that?" He said a little too loud, getting stares yet again.
"Harry, you can't say that, and putting effort into it will make a higher grade. It's just a mind trick.
"So, you want me to redo all of these, but on here?" I nodded, earning a groan. He did it anyway. I wonder if his tattoos, piercing, and gauges are a way to throw someone off of how intelligent he is, or is it something else? He was so focused, and he even used my markers to add color. We both decided to split up the report. I nearly forgot it was lunchtime, and I'm lucky the bell rang. The reason I have so much free time, most teachers who don't teach the first period are out getting last minute supplies, or are in training up until lunch.
"I think it looks great," Harry said, looking at me and I nodded agreeing.
"Yeah, it does." I smiled up at him, and he to me.
"Alright, partner," He said, sticking out his large hand. I shook it, and we both went on our way to lunch.
"Before I go, I'm going to put this in my room." He nodded, but still followed me.
"Harry, I've already said you can't be down the girl's hall," I said, but he ignored me. Rolling my eyes, I unlocked my door and put the poster away.
Opening the cafeteria doors, I looked at my usual table. Juniper and Beverly were already seated, as Harry and I got in line.
"How does your lunch system work?" He asked, making me look up at him.
"You grab a tray, and then you have the main food option, and you also have dessert and drink options," I said as he followed my lead.
"You take your student ID, and you're going to scan it. It helps the cafeteria staff keep track of who ate and who didn't." I said, grabbing a sub sandwich. I got myself a small pudding before I scanned my card.
"Like this?" He asked, making me nod.
"Drinks are on the sidebar," I said while grabbed a Powerade.
"Can I sit with you? You're the only person I know." He asked, and I nodded.
We sat down with Beverly and Juniper, and they gave us a warry stare.
"Guys, this is Harry. Harry, these are my friends Beverly and Juniper.
"Hi," Beverly said, and Juniper dismissed him.
"Tyler, remember what we talked about, no distractions," Juniper said, making me nod.
"Distractions?" Harry asked, obliviously.
"The opposite gender tends to be distracting and can get in the way of convictions, especially if they aren't from around here." She said to him, making him roll his eyes.
"Okay, so you're telling me, guys and gals can't be friends?" Harry challenged, which never happens. Juniper may be small and short, but she's quite intimidating with her words because she's brutally honest.
"No, you can be friends, but nothing more," She said, and he dismissed her.
"This place is a primary school for teens." He said, making Juniper froze unsure of what to say.
"You only went after Tyler because she's pretty," Juniper said, sounding irrational.
"Seriously? Do you think that's why I'm here? For a girl? I just got here. Did it ever occur to you that we have the first period together?" He questioned her, making her squirm.
"Then I guess I can't complain, my first friend is so pretty." He said, and with that, Juniper ignored him the rest of lunch.
