He loved her more than anyone else in the entire universe, she brought a light to his life that shined through all the shadows. Fen’s parents weren’t the best support system, they barely cared when Odin cast them to different realms. Loki couldn’t wait to get rid of Hel. To be fair Loki didn’t really care for their mother at all. Their mother was something of a mystery to everyone, she wasn’t really around much after Hel was born, and from what everyone had told him she wasn’t worth the worry.
So when Sol shined her rays down on Fen for the first time he felt a warmth unlike anything he had ever felt before. The sunlight radiating from her golden hair bounced off his black fur as she settled by the waters of Asgard. He wasn’t his full size, much larger than a mortal world wolf, but still able to fit inside a house without turning human. At this point he had a hard time keeping his human form for extended periods of time anyway so the outdoors and rocky cliffs of the god’s realm was a perfect home for him.
Her song filled his ears as he drew closer to her daring him to tempt the fates and her trust. With the snap of a twig under his foot she jolted around jumpeding slightly pulling her legs close to her. Her pure white dress hung like a loose robe allowing her a cover to hide her full figure.
Fen wouldn’t dare to speak, just watch what she would do next. After some time passed she offered her hand forward smiling. “Who might you be?” that angelic voice hummed through the air like its own ray of special light.
Still Fen stayed quiet. He looked her up and down. She wasn’t like the other Aesir. Odin had his hands full with Loki and his schemes, anyone who has a familiar tie to that Jotunn wasn’t looked on favorably and being Loki’s eldest son definitely wouldn’t sit well once she knew who he was.
“My name is Sol.” She offered her name freely and dared to take a slight step toward him, her feet landing on the ground, “I’m new to Asgard.” more free information, but what could Fen do with it? “My brother and I are wards of Odin’s.”
That was enough information for him. He took a leap backward, turning back into the forest. The trees offered as much camouflage as they could but apparently it wasn’t enough. He stopped near a cave he had been living in for a while but was surprised to see Sol catching up quickly.
“Please, I meant no offense.”
“Odin would have my head if he knew you were talking to me.” For it being the first words he said to her he hoped it would coax her away back to her daydream.
“That might be so,” she smiled, kicking her bare feet against the ground, “You’re like me aren’t you?”
“How so?” It was interesting for her to assume they were in any way alike. “You’re the bright rays that shine warmth on this world.”
Agreeing she tossed her arms behind her skipping closer, “And you remind me slightly of my brother. Even in darkness you need light. What kind of darkness do you live in?” Looking around the exterior of the cave she gained far more ground than Fen would have liked.
“I live where the Aesir will allow me.”
“Terrible of them,” Finally she had grew close enough to touch him, her slender hand running along his side burying deep in his fur.
“What are you doing?” He felt the warmth of her hand extending to his limbs as he felt himself shrinking down his mortal form emerging again after many years in absence.
“Just curious.” She giggled, “Tell, me why would a handsome man like you take the form of a large wolf?”
This form was slightly less muscular than his more mature current build, Fen hadn’t aged but a few centuries, and very few of those years were spent building up any muscle mass. “You have it backwards.” His long hair dangled over his eyes with tints of black and blue, “I was born a wolf.”
“Interesting.” Sol smiled, calling white clothes out of thin air. “Please do cover yourself.”
They weren’t Fen’s style, white with gold trim slacks, but he didn’t want to make the maiden uncomfortable, “So you’re one of the special Aesir I guess?”
“Special?” She c****d her head to the side, still taking her laps around him as she studied every inch of him.
“Alfather has his spear, his blind son can shoot with impossible accuracy, his other son is able to entrance women with his voice. Then there’s the thunder head.”
She ducked her head into her hands, hiding a laugh, “Yes, I guess that’s why Odin took my brother and me in, and you’re not some special Aesir?”
“My father was a giant, as was my mother. My siblings and I are enemies of the Alfather.”
“You have siblings?” Leaning down she forced Fen to meet her eyes as she looked up at him, “Tell me about them.”
“What’s to tell?” he shrugged, “My little sister is the ruler of Nifelheim, my brother is out in that lake somewhere.” Nodding off to the large ocean surrounding the god’s lands he shrugged, “We’re not really welcomed in the halls of the gods.”
“Gods?” Sol spat, “What do they know? Your family seems to be far more powerful than any of Odin’s children.”
“How so?” He felt his form shifting slightly as his canines grew more pointed. He needed to end this conversation before she figured out how powerless he was.
“For starters,” she hummed, “Your little sister is the ruler of an entire realm? The underworld no less. Then lets see, your brother is the giant snake that Thor boasts about one day fighting to prove his strength during our dinners?”
“And me?”
“You’re the great wolf. Odin warns everyone about the black wolf in the forests.”
“Warns?” there was a skip in his breath now, a slight accomplishment was growing deep in his stomach and suddenly the thought of losing control over his form was fading, “If you’re warned about me why are you here?”
She shrugged and wrapped herself around Fen’s arm tightly, “Maybe because I don’t take the word of someone who is clearly jealous of a superior wolf.”
Fen nodded, almost forgetting Odin at one point used to take the form of a wolf. It was rare now for him to be seen in such a state, was that because of him though? Fen always thought it was the ravens’ doing. There was another thought that was crossing his mind, this young maiden was clearly after something, “Why are you really here Sol?”
“I’m pure sunlight.” She smiled rubbing her cheek on his forearm, “Anywhere I see darkness I want to shine my light.”
Looking down at her he couldn’t help but smile. She was something different, it was refreshing to not be shunned. “Would you be willing to take a trip to the mortal world?”
Looking up at him her smile faded slightly, “Do you think it’s safe? Odin says the humans are wild war mongering creatures.”
“They are.” daring to run his fingers through her hair, “But it has the best food, and most of the humans stay away from me. I’m kind of seen as a monster to them.”
“Now why would anyone see you as a monster?” She giggled.
